Fujitsu Semiconductor Sets up a Joint Laboratory with Shandong University

To promote the curriculums of internet of things

Fujitsu Semiconductor (Shanghai) Company Limited

Shanghai, July 06, 2011

As a leader in semiconductor technology and a pioneer in university training programs, Fujitsu Semiconductor (Shanghai) Co., Ltd announced today, that it has set up a joint laboratory with Shandong University to promote the curriculum of internet of things. The opening ceremony was held in June 21 in Shandong University, and this joint laboratory will combine research, production and study together to promote the development of technologies in the university.

With the development of intelligent urban construction, the internet of things has gradually become a significant technology to change the way of our life. In the early 2010, the Ministry of Education issued a notice requiring universities to include the major of internet of things. Nearly 40 colleges and universities have been approved to set up internet of things related curriculums, such as, "internet of things engineering", "network sensor technology" and "smart grid". As a comprehensive curriculum, internet of things encompasses computer science, electronics, communications, control, and software etc, with higher requirements in personnel training, practice, and curriculum.

Earlier this year, at the "Seminar on China University Education of Internet of Things", Fujitsu semiconductor and the Steering Committee of National University Education of Internet of Things signed memorandum on the curriculums, laboratory development, teacher’s education and training activities.

After six months of preparation, among five partner institutions, Shandong University was the first to establish joint internet of things laboratory with Fujitsu semiconductor. Fujitsu semiconductor will provide the lab with laboratory equipment and software, including, MB95200/300 series, car dashboard, body control, car infotainment and other CAN related applications 16-bit development software as well as MB9B506 series processor (Cortex-M3 core) development kits which are new and have a great market potential.

Fujitsu MB95200/300 MCU is an 8-bit high performance microcontroller with embedded flash memory and industry-leading performance of 8-bit micro-control unit, it can execute more instructions than the others, and achieve the required processing performance by a lower frequency, and it effectively reduces the power consumption.

Attending the opening ceremony, Mr. Wang Yu, marketing director of Fujitsu Asia Pacific delivered a speech; "Shandong University has trained a large number of talents. Information Science and Engineering Department has made a great achievement since its founding in 2011. It has quality faculties and labs Fujitsu is very pleased to work with Information Science and Engineering Department of Shandong University, especially in the area of internet of things"

Wang Hongjian, vice director from the Information Science and Engineering Department, said: "Fujitsu has a leading position in the area of semiconductor, and we need creative companies to join hand in the promotion of university internet of things, we are happy to have Fujitsu as our partner and hope the cooperation will continue."

In the future, Fujitsu will strengthen its cooperation with China universities, and provide its supports to the construction of internet of things and other areas to enhance education in China.
