Freescale Semiconductor and Fujitsu Cooperate to Deliver Hyundai Autonet's NAVI System

mobileGT™ Alliance expands internationally to offer a proven solution and greater support for navigation and infotainment system designers

Fujitsu Microelectronics (Shanghai) Company Limited

Shanghai, November 09, 2004

Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) and Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE:FSL) are cooperating to deliver highest-performance embedded solutions for in-vehicle navigation, infotainment and driver information systems (DIS), as well as industrial control.

Hyundai Autonet, a leader in automotive multimedia electronics, intends to base its next-generation NAVI family of 3-D navigation systems on Freescale's 32-bit, 400 MHz, PowerPC™-based MPC5200 processor; Fujitsu's high-performance MB86296 graphics display controller; and Tilcon Software's graphics software.

"Working together, Freescale and Fujitsu are reducing the time it takes customers like Hyundai Autonet to develop feature-rich, high-end navigation and driver information systems," said Bill Pfaff, vice president and general manager of Freescale's Digital Audio, Radio and Telematics business. "This collaboration will help foster continued innovation in tracking on-the-road location." The high-performing combination of the Coral PCI graphics engine and the MPC5200 processor has yielded design-ins in automotive and industrial applications.

"This agreement between Freescale and Fujitsu is a major breakthrough in this market," said Dirk Weinsziehr, senior director of marketing at Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe GmbH. "In bringing together these leaders in technology development, we're helping our customers create price-performance competitive systems with strong, truly differentiating features."
