Peking University and Fujitsu R&D Center Co., Ltd.(1) established Peking University-Fujitsu United Research Center on Information Science and Technology in Peking University. The aim was to strengthen partnership between both parties in comprehensive basic research fields of IT including information processing, communications, semiconductor and etc. through the operation of the center.

On June 2, Vice President Professor Chi Huisheng of Peking University, Deputy Dean Professor Mei Hong of School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science of Peking University, PresidentMichio Fujisaki of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd., Standing Vice President of Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. and Chairman of Fujitsu R&D Center Co., Ltd. Yukou Mochida et al attended the signing ceremony, and unveiled for the United Research Center after the signing ceremony.

Aim and background

The United Research Center will utilize disciplinary foundation and accumulated talents of Peking University and research advantages and productization experience, research wide objects related to IT, and promote comprehensive partnership. In May of this year, Chairman Naoyuki Akikusa of Fujitsu Ltd. was invited to give a special lecture at Peking University, stated that Fujitsu would strengthen the comprehensive cooperation with Peking University, causing the establishment of the United Research Center.

Fujitsu Ltd. has been focusing on the cooperation with Chinese universities and research institutions, and as an integral part to strengthen the strategy of research and development globalization, registered and established Fujitsu R&D Center Co., Ltd., a wholly owned research and development institution, in 1998, in order to promote the cooperation with Chinese universities and research institutions. It has performed continuous cooperation with Peking University in three fields including information processing, mobile communications and semiconductor, and the research results published in 2001-Annotation Corpus of People's Daily(2)-have been widely used.

The United Research Center will further strengthen partnership between both parties in comprehensive basic research fields of IT including information processing, communications, semiconductor and etc.
