Fujitsu and Follett Deliver Innovative Student Information System to Ontario Schools

Streamlines many educational administrative tasks, making it easier for school districts to gather, access and analyze the data they need

Fujitsu Consulting (Canada) Inc. / Follett of Canada, Inc.

Toronto, Ontario, January 29, 2019

Fujitsu Consulting (Canada) Inc. (“Fujitsu”) today announces that it has been named the Preferred Vendor for the Student Information System and Services (“SIS”) initiative through the Ontario Education Collaborative Marketplace (“OECM”) and will deliver Follett’s Aspen Student Information System1 and related services to district school boards across Ontario.

Fujitsu is partnering with Follett of Canada, Inc. (“Follett”) to set up and manage the SIS software application, delivery environment and integrated platform with either Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) or on-premise solutions, leveraging Follett’s Aspen platform in all cases.

This secure, Web-based SIS is accessible through any common browser and mobile device with support for both English and French, and is provided with a full range of related services to offer a host of benefits. This will enable school districts, schools, teachers, parents and students to:

  • Maintain a single, integrated record for each student from kindergarten to high school graduation
  • Manage enrollment, grading, and course and teacher schedules
  • Monitor students‘ progress and submit assignments online
  • Access educational support on an individual level
  • Enable communication between administrators, teachers and families on an ongoing basis
  • Support government-mandated and ad hoc student reporting needs
  • Allow collaboration between school districts in the Province to share learning, tools and materials

The system will drive significant efficiencies and cost savings for Ontario school boards, enabling integration of disparate systems and opportunities to share best practice. Fujitsu also will provide streamlined training programs and free webinars and demonstrations, which will be offered as part of the agreement.

“As more and more educators and families embrace digital technology to facilitate a growing number of learning and administrative tasks, Fujitsu is proud to help provide the solutions and tools that best serve their needs and the needs of their faculty and students,” says Sherry Casey, Head of Canada at Fujitsu. “With the new OECM agreement in place, we look forward to helping districts throughout Ontario spend less time with busy work and more time doing what they do best – educating our future leaders.”

“This newly awarded agreement with Fujitsu is a promising and momentous step towards realizing opportunities for greater collaboration and savings within Ontario’s education sector, and in achieving progress that aligns with the Auditor General’s recommendations,” says John Sabo, President and CEO of OECM. “Not only can school boards collaborate to save on integration and training costs, OECM’s involvement means greater long-term savings and productivity through consistent contract management, reliable service and competitive pricing.”

“We are so pleased to have the opportunity to work with Fujitsu to show school boards across Ontario the value Aspen, our world-class student information system, can bring to administrators, teachers, parents and students,” said Nader Qaimari, President, Follett School Solutions. “Aspen continues to prove to be the right choice for the world’s largest school systems, and we greatly look forward to this partnership.”
