U.S. DoD Certifies Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® 4000 MSPPs; Adds Products to Approved List

Conformance and Interoperability Tests Prove that FLASHWAVE MSPPs are Viable for DoD Network Deployments

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.

Anaheim, CA, April 20, 2009

Fujitsu Network Communications, a leading supplier of innovative optical and wireless networking solutions, announced today that its market-leading FLASHWAVE® 4000 Multiservice Provisioning Platforms (MSPPs) and NETSMART® management systems have successfully completed comprehensive interoperability and performance testing. The Defense Information Systems Agency’s (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) has certified that these platforms are ready to be incorporated into the Department of Defense (DoD) network environment, and have placed the FLASHWAVE 4100 and FLASHWAVE 4500 MSPPs on the Unified Capabilities (UC) Approved Products List (APL). The main objective of JITC testing is to provide a thorough assessment of a products’ ability to provide security, protocol compliance, stability, scalability, interoperability, and management for potential DoD network configurations.

“Supporting the highly-secure and scalable networking needs of the U.S. Government is a key component of our overall optical networking strategy,” said Jeana Cunningham, vice president of federal sales at Fujitsu Network Communications. “DoD certification demonstrates that both Fujitsu hardware and software, plus their innovative underlying technology, can continue to perform in mission critical applications, which is vital for our military customers. Both FLASHWAVE products are manufactured by our employees at our headquarters in Richardson, Texas.”

Fujitsu installed its FLASHWAVE 4100 access MSPP and FLASHWAVE 4500 core MSPP in the JITC testing facility at Ft. Huachuca, Ariz. The lab is configured to replicate potential DoD network configurations, and each platform and its respective functionality was tested to measure its ability to protect sensitive information and interoperate within various configurations. The Fujitsu NETSMART® 500 network element manager and NETSMART 1500 element management system (EMS) were used throughout the hardware testing and are included in the certification.

These FLASHWAVE MSPPs will be on display at the DISA Customer Partnership Conference in Anaheim, Calif. from April 20-22, 2009. Visitors to the Fujitsu booth (No. 1009) will learn how these products utilize proven technologies to deliver innovative services and critical infrastructure protection to agency networks, while delivering CAPEX and OPEX savings.

Fujitsu is a key supplier of SONET and Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) solutions to the federal government through FTS2001, WITS2001, Networx, DATS and General Services Administration (GSA) CONNECTIONS. FLASHWAVE optical networking solutions, NETSMART management platforms and Network Life Cycle Services are available through GSA contract number GS-35F-0414K.
