FiberLight® Standardizes on Fujitsu Optical Networking Solutions

Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® 7420 Platform Lights Up 14 Metro Areas to Support Ethernet Connectivity and Managed Services

Fujitsu Network Communications Inc.

Richardson, TX, October 30, 2008

Fujitsu Network Communications, a leading supplier of innovative optical and wireless networking solutions, and FiberLight® LLC, a leading provider of metro optical networking, announced today that FiberLight has standardized on Fujitsu optical networking equipment as the backbone for its LightSource® family of managed service offerings.

FiberLight is deploying the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE® 7420 managed wavelength platform due to its ability to easily scale as FiberLight’s backbone bandwidth needs expand across the company’s multi-city networks. The company is also deploying the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 4100 and FLASHWAVE 4500 multiservice provisioning platforms (MSPPs) for SONET and Ethernet connectivity between customer sites. Management support for FiberLight’s high-availability, mission-critical network is being provided by two fully redundant network operations centers (NOCs) located at Fujitsu locations in Sunnyvale, Calif. and Richardson, Texas.

“Our customers demand 99.999 % reliability for the services we provide, so it was critically important that we choose a supplier with the same commitment to high-quality products and services,” said Michael Miller, president and CEO of FiberLight. “We chose Fujitsu because of the company’s long-standing reputation for quality products and services, its highly flexible metro optical transport product line, and for its Network Operations Center, which allows us to augment our network operations staff with optical networking experts who are at our disposal 24 hours a day.”

FiberLight has deployed its dense core metro fiber infrastructure in 14 metropolitan markets across the U.S. The company is leveraging this embedded network to become a supplier of premium managed services, which are optimized to provide carriers, government entities, content service providers, web-centric businesses, and enterprise customers with a wide variety of wavelength, metro Ethernet and SONET connectivity options.

“We also found a best-of-breed product with the FLASHWAVE 7420 platform,” Miller continued. “The flexibility it offers by delivering all the significant protocols and interfaces from 100 Mbps to 10 Gbps allows us to offer custom service packages and a variety of other specialized services to our customers. But as important, these services can be turned up in a very short timeframe, which gives us a major advantage in today’s competitive environment.”

The Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 7420 managed wavelength platform is optimized for competitive and independent exchange carriers, as well as large enterprises. The platform will multiplex, transport, and switch high-speed voice, video, data and storage applications. The modular architecture of the FLASHWAVE 7420 system enables high density and efficiency across numerous protocols, including Ethernet, SONET/SDH, G.709 OTN, ATM, video, and all common SAN protocols.

“We’re delighted that FiberLight has chosen metro optical transport solutions from Fujitsu,” said Jim Hintze, senior vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. “FiberLight is recognized as an industry expert in the management and delivery of metro fiber solutions, and as they continue to expand their market share as a provider of managed services, we’re proud that they have selected our solutions to deliver the service flexibility, scalability and management for their comprehensive, multi-city network.”
