THE POSSIBILITIES ARE INFINITE

Datacentre Services

Designing and building reliable datacentre infrastructures to guarantee IT service delivery

Moving to the datacentre

From most IT departments’ perspective, the last decade has been characterised by an awful lot of change – and very little time for reflection and rationalisation. Companies are finding that the apparent freedom and flexibility of their open systems servers has eroded control and manageability. Today, many IT departments are trying to restore order, by bringing servers and storage back under the umbrella of the datacentre. The traditional datacentre gave us security, scalability and manageability.

It is essential that these attributes are carried forward into the datacentre of the future, with scope for improved availability, performance, flexibility and manageability. This adds up to a predictable service that meets expectations for customers and internal users alike. The issue is how to move to a ‘datacentric model’ with all the current constraints of resources - people, skills and space.

This isn’t the only pressure: IT budgets are scrutinised, as management refocuses on total cost of ownership and increases the pressure to maximise use of the asset base - hardware, software and people. And these pressures aren’t going to go away. This is where Fujitsu can help.

How can Fujitsu help

We supply services to design and build successful datacentre infrastructures, giving organisations the ability to supply information and processing capacity to the right place at the right time.

There’s a couple of things you need to know about us: Firstly, we have over 30 years experience of designing, building and operating datacentres. So we know exactly how design decisions translate into everyday operations. We also understand that the infrastructure has to build on the people, processes and IT estate that are already in place. Finally, we are a truly independent service company. That means we can offer solutions based on best of breed components - servers, storage, software, networks and associated tools.

How we work

Our consultants have a wealth of experience in designing and building business critical IT infrastructures. They work with you to examine your organisation’s business requirements, and design an IT infrastructure to support them.

We improve systems availability, scalability and service levels by providing systems that are predictable and manageable. You could say, we bring order out of the chaos. We use industry standard methodologies to investigate issues and develop solutions that are specific to you, and will save your organisation money. And we make life simpler for you, by reducing the complexity of the infrastructure. So, for the first time for a long time, you can see the wood for the trees. We don’t just look at hardware and software, of course: we design processes and procedures that enable systems that are predictable and reliable. Systems that can be managed more effectively and efficiently. As a result, we can free the resources, time and space you need to focus on activities that will deliver competitive advantage, and provide a better return on the IT assets that support your business.

Fujitsu provides a wide range of datacentre services that increase value and operational efficiency, while implementing new technology to assist in rapid change. We have over 30 years experience of designing, building and operating datacentres. Fujitsu can provide:

Business benefits

  • Full strategic sourcing
All service elements are outsourced and delivered as an integrated service solution. This may or may not include the transfer of assets and people from the customer organisation to Fujitsu.
  • Partial strategic sourcing
One or more of the service elements is outsourced. There are various combinations, which may be extended as you progress through your IT service journey. This route may or may not include the transfer of assets and people.
  • Hosted or 'piped' services
The provision and management of tools and process functions such as service desk with asset and change management. Fujitsu retains ownership of the software and charges on a price per agent/seat basis. You provide the people to use the tools and processes.
  • Design, build and operate
Fujitsu works with you to understand your needs and will then design, build and operate the facility. Services range from security consultancy to desktop break/fix.

“Consolidation has become a hot topic, especially in Windows environments, with some organizations overwhelmed by the proliferation of IA servers and the systems management and cost penalties that this can generate. More and more companies are looking to recentralise at least part of their IT infrastructure via consolidation solutions.” Karen Benson and Samina Malik, Server Consolidation: Prepare for the Rush, Gartner 2001
