Fujitsu Powers Up B5 File-Sized Touch Screen LifeBook With New Ultra-Low Voltage Processors

Singapore, 21 May 2001 — In accordance to consumer demand, Fujitsu, leading manufacturer of computer products, has worked with Intel® and launched a Pentium® III model of its famed B-series LifeBook. The B5 file-sized notebook now runs on an Intel® Pentium® III 600 MHz processor with SpeedStep™ technology. To further reduce power consumption, the ultra-low voltage microprocessor has been specially incorporated into the new Fujitsu LifeBook B-2548 which helps translate to a longer battery life for mobile users.

Commonly referred to as a small electronic foolscap pad, the LifeBook B-2548 also packs away a 128 MB SDRAM and a spacious 20 GB hard disk. Communication is maximised with an integrated LAN port and modem port. The notebook also has 2 PCMCIA interfaces that can accommodate two Type I / II cards or one Type III PC card.

The LifeBook B-2548 series' 10.4" TFT colour display is endowed with Touch Screen capability, and the orientation can be rotated via software. This makes it eminently suitable for outdoor sales personnel or road-warriors who need to conclude deals on the go, as the process of obtaining a written agreement is greatly sped up by the B-series' Touch Screen display. Virtual contracts can simply be presented and signed on screen, with the aid of the attractive stylus pen that is conveniently located beside the screen.

To spare time-rushed executives the effort of disconnecting printer cables and modem wires each time they leave the office, Fujitsu has thoughtfully designed a snap-on port replicator. In the shape of a wedge, the port replicator tilts the notebook into a comfortable position for typing. Users can enjoy full peripheral support like an external monitor, LAN, printing services, scanning, a full-sized keyboard and mouse whilst working at their desks. When it is time for meetings or off-site work, users simply disengage the notebook with minimal fuss.

The LifeBook B-2548 has a security panel consisting of five buttons located at the front. Through this panel, security features can be programmed into the hardware to prevent theft or unauthorised access to the LifeBook. There are more than 800,000 possible password combinations that can be set on this security panel. Once the correct password has been keyed into the system, the lock indicator disappears from the display panel and the system will power up or resume from its suspend mode. Four other similar buttons can be programmed for hassle-free launch onto the Internet, email applications, or other user-preferred applications.

Fujitsu employs a battery bridging technology to ensure no loss of data during battery swaps. The LifeBook B-2548 has a battery life of over two hours* on the first battery and up to a maximum of six hours* with the extended battery pack. This new technology ensures that work can continue uninterrupted.

Availability
LifeBook B-2548 is available from Fujitsu PC Asia's resellers in June 2001.
