Since DoiMoi policy has been implemented in 1988, Vietnam has achieved many significant successes in all fields ranging from economic, politic to society.
National economy is developing prosperously , presenting in the rise of GDP, GNP, low trade surplus etc. Foreign direct investment (FDI) is on the increase despite the slowdown in foreign investment in the region.
People's living standard has also been improved dramatically showing in the rise of average income, better living condition,high literacy percentage, low unemployed percentage etc.
One of the factors contributing to all those achievement is the introduction and development of telecom and information technology. In only a short period of time but it has developed very quickly. Few years ago, DGPT(Department General of Posts and Telecommunications of Vietnam) is the sole provider in telecom services but now there are many new foreign investors participanting this field.
Thanks to the investment of Vietnamese government as well as foreign investors in telecom and IT infrastructure, Vietnamese people have been able to take great advantage of the newest technology .Accoding to the newest statistics of DGPT(Department General of Posts and Telecommunications of Vietnam), telephone subscriber rate now is 1 telephone/100 persons.
About internet user rate, Vietnam's rate is only 0,16%, meaning only 130.731 internet subscribers. Comparing to 7.38% of the
world and 64,68% of USA, it is really a small figure.Anyhow, it's still an incredible figure some years ago. And according
to experts' estimation, it will increase soon in the near future.
