Consumer FCRAM (Low-Power DDR SDRAM)

Overview

Consumer FCRAM is a low-power SDR/DDR SDRAM and is well suited for digital consumer electronics such as digital televisions and camcorders, which require high-speed data transfer and low power consumption. The Fujitsu Consumer FCRAM is optimal for System-in-Package (SiP) configuration, which provides customers with better product performance at less cost.

Features

The Fujitsu Consumer FCRAM provides the following features:

  • Low Power Consumption
The Fujitsu Consumer FCRAM integrates a wide data bus width of 64-bit I/O that enables higher data bandwidth at a lower operating frequency. Since the memory operates at a lower frequency, termination resistors are not needed. This allows the FCRAM to reduce power consumption while still delivering a high data bandwidth.
  • High Data Bandwidth
With 64-bit I/O and maximum 216MHz operating frequency (at 105ºC), FCRAM operates at 3.46GByte/s data bandwidth that is higher than DDR3 (3.2GByte/s bandwidth with a 16-bit I/O at 800MHz).
  • 125°C-Rated Memory
Fujitsu Consumer FCRAM supports operating temperatures up to 125℃. This capability allows the memory to be used in conjunction with high-power consumption SoCs in a SiP without any thermal design issues.

PDF Case Study of SiP thermal Design

Figure (a): With a high power consumption SoC, the SiP temperature becomes 105°C. However conventional memory can only operate up to 95°C (ex.), so this configuration cannot be used.

Figure (b): By adding a heat-sink, the SiP temperature decreases and operation becomes feasible, however there is increased cost.

Figure (c): With Fujitsu’s 125°C-rated FCRAM, even if the SiP temperature is 105°C, the memory performs fine and no heat-sink is necessary.

Mobile FCRAM (PSRAM)

Overview

Mobile FCRAM is PSRAM (Pseudo SRAM) that was developed for cellular phones. The Fujitsu Mobile FCRAM interface is based on asynchronous SRAM with support for page mode and synchronous burst mode for high-speed read and write operations with low power consumption. The Fujitsu Mobile FCRAM is ideal for general mobile applications such as smart phones, PDAs, portable media players (PMPs), and portable games.
