Mobile WiMAX – 802.16e-2005 RF Module (MB86K71)
This new RF module from Fujitsu, the world's smallest to feature all of the RF circuits necessary for Mobile WiMAX devices including RF-IC, antenna switches, a power amplifier, filters, and an oscillator circuit, measures just 15mm x 15mm (height: 1.5mm) in dimension. Thus, this RF module will enable significant reduction of the form-factor of Mobile WiMAX devices. The new RF module supports MIMO and beamforming technology, thereby enabling high-speed and reliable wireless connections that are essential for Mobile WiMAX devices. Furthermore, Fujitsu also verified that this RF module can be connected to Fujitsu's previously released Mobile WiMAX baseband chip, MB86K21, enabling customers faster development and faster time to market of Mobile WiMAX devices through the use of both of these chips.
Main specifications:

Fujitsu 2nd Generation Mobile WiMAX Chipset for Embedded Modules
MB86K22, MB86K52, MB39C316
MB86K22 Baseband IC
This fully integrated baseband IC was built using the Fujitsu 65nm advanced CMOS low-leakage process technology. The operating
power of the MB86K22 has been reduced by 36 percent from the previous generation. Power-gating technology shuts down the power
supply in the unused blocks inside the device, so that the entire mobile WiMAX module consumes only 0.5mA, extending battery
life. This IC, which is fully compliant with the IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard utilizing scalable OFDMA PHY, operates in Time
Division Duplex (TDD) mode. The chip supports multiple operating frequency and channel bandwidth profiles, as well as various
subcarrier allocation schemes.
| Bandwidth | 3.5MHz, 5MHz, 7MHz, 10MHz, 20MHz (planned) |
| Modulation | 64QAM / 16QAM / QPSK |
| FFT size | 512/1024 FFT OFDMA |
| Antenna | 2x2 STC/MIMO (MatrixA and MatrixB) |
| OS | Windows Mobile / Embedded Linux |

MB86K52 RF IC
This RF IC, which was built using CMOS process technology, supports 2.3GHz, 2.5GHz, and 3.5GHz, almost all the frequencies
set by the WiMAX Forum™. This offers mobile WiMAX terminal manufacturers the opportunity to develop global WiMAX devices.
The MB86K52 also supports MIMO and beamforming technology, which are essential for mobile WiMAX Wave 2. Fujitsu’s mobile WiMAX
RF LSI fully complies with the IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard and can support multiple operating frequency bands with several
channel bandwidths. At the same time, MB86K52 provides a lower noise figure (NF) at the receiver and better error vector magnitude
(EVM/RCE) at the transmitter when compared to the previous generation RF ICs. The chip connects to a baseband IC through a
4-wire SPI interface and analog IQ interfaces. When paired with Fujitsu’s baseband solution, the RF IC is able to conduct
auto-IQ mismatching calibration, which further improves system performance. This mobile WiMAX RF LSI can also be utilized
by next-generation PHS technology based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing.
| RF frequencies | 2.295GHz - 2.405GHz / 2.491GHz - 2.695GHz / 3.295GHz - 3.620GHz |
