The integration of DVB-S/S2 capabilities into the IP-9500 eliminates the need for separate modulators, enabling broadcasters to maintain superior HD picture quality produced by the IP-9500 while reducing overall costs of transmitted HD signals via satellite. - CBS Broadcasts Democratic and Republican National Conventions in High Definition Using Fujitsu IP-9500e MPEG-4 Encoders
Sunnyvale, CA, October 6, 2008 – Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a leading supplier of innovative computer products and broadcast solutions, announced today that the Fujitsu IP-9500e was the exclusive broadcast contribution video encoder used by CBS News to deliver its coverage of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions in high-definition (HD). The IP-9500e enabled CBS News to send high-quality HD video feeds from the convention floors as well as Investco Field to its new HD Control Room 47 in New York with exceptionally low encode/decode latency. The highly compressed HD video stream from the IP-9500e enabled multiplexing 10 to 14 HD video channels and simultaneously transmitted them back to the CBS Control Room over terrestrial IP networks with bandwidths traditionally associated with standard-defiintion feeds. The HD video quality met CBS’s stringent video quality requirements and was free of troublesome lip-sync issues normally associated with such multiplexed configurations. CBS’s coverage was considered by many as the best quality video from the Conventions.

CBS News is using the IP-9500e at its Washington, D.C. bureau to deliver multiple HD feeds to its new HD Control Room 47 at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York. The combination of the Fujitsu IP-9500e and Sencore MRD3187A Decoder creates the lowest latency of any available MPEG-4 AVC codec. The 300-millisecond encoder/decoder latency enables CBS News to conduct live interviews with exceptional HD picture quality while using less than half the network bandwidth required for traditional MPEG-2 transmissions.
