Scanners for the Healthcare Industry

The Healthcare IT market is one of the fastest growing segments for IT spending in the US, with many factors driving initiatives that involve document imaging and related technologies. In addition to regulations like HIPAA, Sarbanes-Oxley, and others, in 2004, the federal government launched the Electronic Health Record Initiative with a goal of electronic medical records available to all Americans within 10 years. Other factors involved are the aging baby-boomer population, shortages of clinical staff (Doctors & Nurses), and decreasing reimbursement for healthcare providers. This "Perfect Storm" is driving IT decisions in today's healthcare market, and influencing the way healthcare organizations think about their IT spending.
With the use of document imaging and related technologies, healthcare organizations can realize tangibles benefits related to patient care, cost savings, and efficiency improvement. These solutions may range from Hospitals, Insurance Payers, Pharmacies, and other healthcare related industries. With many document imaging solutions in a clinical setting, vital information that previously took hours to retrieve can now be accessed within seconds, eliminating potential errors and improving overall patient care. In addition, healthcare organizations also eliminate significant costs associated with the paper record including: Storage space, off-site facility rental and couriers, folders and labels, multi-part forms, microfilm and microfiche, and transport carts and bins.
Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA) is an established leader in the document imaging market, featuring state-of-the-art scanning solutions in the workgroup, departmental, and production-level scanner categories. Fujitsu scanners deliver speed, image quality, and great paper handling, along with easy integration and compatibility with document imaging applications. Whether installed as part of an organization-wide solution or as a departmental application, Fujitsu's document scanners offer a flexible, industry-leading approach to your document imaging needs.

Departmental Scanning: Up to 3,000-6,000 Pages Daily
Departmental Scanning is approximately 3,000 to 6,000 documents per day, based on an 8-hour work day including document preparation and assembly. These two models are revisions to their predecessors, the fi-4530C and the previous fi-4340C, with new features including faster speeds, improved paper handling, and also a dual USB and SCSI interface for the fi-4340C. They are ideal for a mid-range scanning application, and provide the option of utilizing a flatbed or not. Because of the straight-through paper path of these scanners, they can also scan documents such as insurance cards and drivers licenses. Also with the flatbed, the fi-4340C offers the option to capture those tough documents that may not feed through the Auto Document Feeder (ADF) only model scanners.

These two models provide a very cost-effective option for higher volume scanning applications, either with or without the flatbed. The fi-5750C is unique in that the Auto Document Feeder (ADF) can swivel up to 180 Degrees, for both left and right-oriented document scanning.
A feature available on both the fi-5650C and fi-5750C is long-paper handling of up to 200 Meters in length. This is an ideal solution to healthcare organizations struggling to capture and retain documents relative to a patient chart such as EKG's and Fetal Monitoring Strips. In many cases, if organizations are scanning these documents, they are cutting and taping the strips to a letter-sized document during prep, then scanning them.
