Fujitsu Announces Universal Bag and Scale Design for U-Scan® Genesis Self-Checkout
New Features Enables Modular Tiered and Non-Tiered Configurations, Providing Retailers with More System Flexibility
LAS VEGAS, NV, May 1, 2008 — Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. today announced the addition of a universal bag and scale design for its U-Scan® Genesis self-checkout family, which will be demonstrated at the Food Marketing Institute’s FMI Show + Marketechnics 2008 in Las Vegas, May 4-7, 2008.
Fully integrated into the U-Scan systems, the universal bag scale design creates a modular and expandable scan and bag solution, ranging from one bag up to six bags using the U-Scan’s existing 1-,2- and 4-bag configurations. In addition, these systems will feature two new four-inch and 12-inch modular bagging options, thus improving ergonomics and customer usability.
This is the industry’s first modular approach to self-checkout that allows retailers to create their own distinct setup by mixing and matching a fixed set of modular components. The design also allows retailers to change the bagging area size and configuration as needed, eliminating expensive “rip out and replace” resets associated with non-modular self checkout designs.
“Retailers need solutions that are durable and flexible enough to evolve over time and meet their changing store and customer needs,” said Brian Yates, U-Scan Genesis self-checkout product line director at Fujitsu Transaction Solutions. “With the universal scan and bag function for U-Scan Genesis, we have met that need for flexibility and can help retailers of all shapes and sizes efficiently and effectively deploy self-checkout.”
Fujitsu is demonstrating the Universal Bag Scale U-Scan Genesis self checkout system at FMI Marketechnics, Booth #2467.
