Helen Ross McNabb Center receives largest technology donation in their history
Microsoft, Fujitsu team up to provide Knoxville nonprofit with more than $567,000 in cash, software and hardware
Frisco, TX, April 18, 2006 — The Helen Ross McNabb Center has received two grants worth a combined total of more than $567,000 in cash, hardware and software from Microsoft and Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc.
These grants will be announced April 25 at 1:30 p.m. during a news conference at the Helen Ross McNabb Center, located at 201 W. Springdale Avenue in Knoxville. Executives, board members and staff for The Center will be joined by representatives from Microsoft, Fujitsu and Regal Entertainment, which helped introduce The Center to the two companies.
"This technology donation is unprecedented in the history of our organization, and we are immensely grateful for the significant generosity of Fujitsu and Microsoft," said Andy Black, president and chief executive officer for the Helen Ross McNabb Center. "We strive every day to provide our communities with the care and attention they deserve, and now – thanks to the tools and resources given to us by Microsoft and Fujitsu – we can continue our mission of improving the lives of the people we serve."
Founded in 1948, the Helen Ross McNabb Center provides comprehensive, individualized quality mental health care services to children, adults, and families in Knoxville and East Tennessee. With a mission to improve the lives of the people it serves, The Center embraces the differences among its staff and people in the community by encouraging creativity, listening to its customers, maintaining a well-trained and highly motivated staff and surpassing standards of excellence in all that it does.
"At Fujitsu, we consider sustainable business management – through which we seek to make lasting economic, environmental and social contributions – as the most important means of doing our part to help make a better world," said Austen Mulinder, president and CEO of Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. "The Helen Ross McNabb Center provides a vitally important service in Knoxville and East Tennessee and we are pleased to help support their efforts."
Microsoft and Fujitsu’s grants – including cash and software from Microsoft and computer hardware from Fujitsu – will benefit The Center’s Planned Obsolescence Program, a three-year internal information technology (IT) plan to replacement all computers within the organization. These replacements will modernize The Center’s complete computer inventory and place the most appropriate technology tools in the hands of its staff, increasing their efficiency and effectiveness in fulfilling McNabb’s mission of service.
"We’re excited to team up with Fujitsu to re-energize the Helen Ross McNabb Center’s IT services, with the goal of helping them further their amazing work here in Tennessee," said Marietta Davis, general manager for Microsoft’s Heartland District. "Microsoft has long believed that inside each and every person there is great potential, but not always the economic means – which is why we have provided more than $24 million in cash and software to community organizations throughout Tennessee since 2000. The Center’s services are a hallmark of dedication to East Tennessee families, and we feel privileged to be a part of their efforts."
"I applaud both Microsoft and Fujitsu for reaching out to The Helen McNabb Center and equipping them with the high-tech tools necessary to continue serving our communities," said Senator Tim Burchett. "With these grants, The Center will be better able to assist and serve the children, adults and families that depend on their services every day. Microsoft and Fujitsu have set a great example for other local companies to follow, and we hope these grants will inspire others to give back to the community the way these companies have given today."
"The Helen Ross McNabb Center is a vital advocate for the health of East Tennessee residents, and now Microsoft and Fujitsu have provided technology to ensure this selfless work continues," said State Representative Joe Armstrong. "I admire these companies’ commitment to community and thank them for providing the technology that will allow The Center to continue offering their important and essential care."
