Fujitsu Introduces U-Scan MAX Single Self-checkout System
New Belted Units Designed for Any Sized Orders
San Diego, CA, January 30, 2006 — Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. today announced the U-Scan MAX Single, a new-generation belted self-checkout system designed for large orders, as well as express. It gives users yet another check-out option as increasing numbers of consumers accept the presence and impact of technology on the shopping experience
The Fujitsu U-Scan Max Single self-checkout unit is equipped with the latest technology for a takeaway belt that gives retailers another option within the U-Scan family to accommodate larger order processing. It also incorporates a new, two-handed scanning feature, which makes scanning easier for the shopper, thus increasing acceptance.
"Self-checkout is widely accepted and consumers increasingly use self-checkout for all sized transactions," said Paul Rosen, vice president and general manager of Fujitsu’s U-Scan business. "The U-Scan MAX Single and our U-Scan Carousel allow retailers to provide another convenience for those shoppers with larger orders."
The U-Scan MAX Single is available in both right- and left-hand models, allowing retailers to configure them side by side. In this mode, a single bagger can conveniently assist two lanes simultaneously during peak hours.
The new self-checkout system supports all major grocery point-of-sale (POS) software applications, making it easier to integrate with existing front-end cash registers. Consumers have every payment option available in a regular lane, including the latest biometric identification systems.
The new units also feature Fujitsu’s F53 cash dispenser that conveniently returns shoppers’ change at the scanner-scale level, avoiding the problem of customers forgetting to take their bills and coins.
The U-Scan MAX Single also fits in a similar footprint as existing check stands, allowing for easy installation. As with all U-Scan self-checkout stations, shoppers can scan and complete their purchase without cashier assistance.
