Fujitsu Drives Canadian Tire Rollout to Completion
Reduced Maintenance Costs by 50 Percent and Lane Counts by 10 Percent
New York, NY, January 17, 2006 — Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc., Canadian Tire Retail and the Canadian Tire Dealers’ Association have completed a 459-store, chain-wide retail technology rollout that included Fujitsu’s TeamPoS 2000 M point-of-sale (POS) hardware, PRIMERGY TX150 back-office servers and a host of managed services.
"Fujitsu managed the complex rollout of store systems across many stores and a lot of lanes very quickly, efficiently and without any hitches," said Andy Wnek, senior vice president of information technology and chief information officer at Canadian Tire Corporation. "The new technology will enable us to undertake new customer-centric initiatives that improve our shopping experience."
Fujitsu has redefined the store system maintenance contract. The innovative Fujitsu Retainer Plus Services Model is a collaborative approach that removes low-value activities and costs from the traditional, insurance-driven service delivery models to create savings that flow directly to Canadian Tire Dealers’ bottom line.
"The integration exceeded our expectations, and we’ve already experienced a 50 percent decrease in maintenance costs and a 10 percent reduction in lane counts," said Neil Maizen, vice president of strategy and technology at the Canadian Tire Dealers’ Association. "We expect our maintenance costs to continue declining, as we collaborate with Fujitsu to eliminate low-value activities. The highly reliable Fujitsu TeamPoS systems have enabled our stores to operate with one less lane, which results in increased selling space and reduced investment in hardware, software and maintenance."
"Canadian Tire illustrates how leading retailers are benefiting from Fujitsu’s Retainer Plus service model, which is focused on relentless cost reduction and ensures year-over-year savings – not just a one-time price reduction at contract renewal," said Austen Mulinder, president and chief executive officer, Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. "We’re very proud of the efficiency and effectiveness of the Canadian Tire implementation, and are confident that they will continue to experience reduced costs and improved operations."
Fujitsu’s TeamPoS 2000 M POS terminal is one of the industry’s first point-of-sale systems to incorporate the Intel Pentium M processor. It offers increased performance, greater reliability and can be economically upgraded, providing retailers the ability to expand their POS capabilities into the future.
The PRIMERGY server line encompasses entry-level servers, compact and scalable blade systems, or advanced multiprocessor servers capable of handling the most demanding data center applications. PRIMERGY servers are designed to be easy to maintain, expand and upgrade to enhance productivity and protect the customer’s technology investments.
