Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc.
Frisco, TX and Salt Lake City, UT, September 02, 2004 — Fujitsu Transaction Solutions Inc. and Klever Marketing Inc. (KLMK.OB) have expanded their strategic alliance announced in February through which the companies are developing a fully integrated, intelligent shopping cart.
Under a new agreement, Fujitsu will acquire Klever's non-United States patents, its software, and certain rights in other related intellectual property. The companies have been collaborating on development of the Klever-Kart system, which is expected to be marketed under the name iKART. Fujitsu will assume responsibility for completion of software development. The companies will jointly market the product within the U.S., and Fujitsu will market the product outside the U.S. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The iKART will feature a built-in wireless computer that shoppers can use as a self-service assistant to scan items for purchase while they are shopping. Retailers will be able to use the device to present personalized offers or general product advertising to customers. The cart is also being designed to integrate with Fujitsu's U-Scan self-checkout system.
Bill Dupre, president and chief operating officer of Klever Marketing said, "The enhanced relationship with Fujitsu will enable us to reach international markets and realize international revenue opportunities much faster."
Klever Marketing, Inc. has developed and markets a proprietary, wireless, in-store advertising and communications system for worldwide supermarket, mass merchandising and other retail applications. Called the Klever-Kart System, it utilizes patented and proven technology to deliver targeted electronic ads and promotions through a small display device affixed to a shopping cart handle. Each marketing message is triggered by the shopping cart's proximity to the product on the shelf, and thus reaches the consumer at the exact product location, or Point-of-Selection.
