Fujitsu Strengthens GPON Development Efforts
Commitment to Access Market Generates Substantial Increase in Global GPON Engineering Staff
Richardson, TX, February 8, 2006 — Fujitsu Network Communications Inc., a leading supplier of IT and wireline/wireless networking solutions, announced today that they have significantly increased engineering development resources allocated to their recently announced Gigabit Passive Optical Networking (GPON) initiative. Fujitsu now has over 100 hardware and software engineers working on their GPON program at development facilities in Pearl River (N.Y.), Richardson (Texas), Sunnyvale (Calif.), and Japan.
"We have been making significant investments in our GPON development program over the last 12 months," said Doug Saylor, senior vice president of planning and development at Fujitsu Network Communications. "We view GPON, and access markets in general, as extremely vital to our customer’s IPTV and triple-play initiatives, and we will continue to make investments and add resources to our development programs in these areas to ensure that Fujitsu provides innovate, new, industry-leading GPON solutions."
Fujitsu, already a leading provider of Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Networking (GEPON) systems in Asia, plus Multi-Service Access Node (MSAN) solutions and IP Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (DSLAMs) for the British Telecom (BT) 21CN initiative, is combining its global PON research and development expertise, global access experience, and strength in SONET, DWDM and packet transport to provide a compelling new GPON architecture for the North American market.
