Fujitsu to Sponsor and Share Quality Experience at Sixth Annual QuEST Forum Best Practices Conference

San Jose, CA., September 12, 2005 — Fujitsu Network Communications Inc. is unique amongst major suppliers of telecom and networking solutions with a complete supply chain that includes a comprehensive manufacturing facility. In order to maintain exceptional delivery performance and product quality, Fujitsu helped define the TL 9000 standard and implemented it in 2000 when their Richardson, Texas headquarters became one of the first recipients of TL 9000 certification.

Fujitsu has been a member of the Quality Excellence for Suppliers of Telecommunications (QuEST) Forum since 1998, with active participation in various working groups that have defined software and hardware requirements and metrics, marketing communications, and the Business Excellence Acceleration Model (BEAM). Ashok Dandekar, director of quality, program management, and engineering IT at Fujitsu Network Communications, was the chairman of the Marketing Communications and Oversight work groups in 2002, the vice-chairman of the Oversight work group in 2003, and is the current chairman of the Global workgroup. He represents the QuEST Forum on the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) Technical Committee 176 (TC176) and has made presentations in the U.S., Europe, South America, and Asia on behalf of QuEST’s speaker forum.

WHAT:

Fujitsu is a host sponsor of the sixth annual QuEST Forum Best Practices Conference, which offers information about the latest tools, techniques, and methodologies to help organizations achieve and sustain business excellence. The comprehensive two-day event will offer an intensive learning experience and exceptional networking opportunities through a thought-provoking blend of keynote speakers and panel discussions.

Dr. Terumi Chikama, corporate vice president and group president of the photonic systems group at Fujitsu Limited, will present “The Challenge for Networked Service Innovation”, which will be the keynote address at the beginning of day two. He will describe how tomorrow’s social systems will be linked with a network infrastructure that will become the lifeline for day-to-day activities.

Ashok Dandekar will present, “Use of Project Review Gates to Improve Quality and Cycle Time”, which will describe how Fujitsu used a systematic approach with clear-cut definitions, responsibilities, and quality criteria for deliverables to effectively manage its product life cycle, reduce cycle time and improve quality. His presentation will describe how lifecycle efficiency was improved by creating specific checklists for each project gate, which were tied back into the overall project plan. A sample gate checklist will be shared and the process of developing them will be described. The presentation will include a description of how challenges were overcome, and tips on how to avoid common pitfalls.

Visitors to the Fujitsu booth will learn about their commitment to social infrastructure and how our hardware and software products for carrier networks will become key elements of a social infrastructure. By providing an end-to-end technology value chain, Fujitsu can control and maintain the quality and reliability between layers.
