Fujitsu and Atrica™ to Demonstrate Converged Triple Play Solutions in the MEF SUPERDemo at SUPERCOMM® 2005

Visit Fujitsu and Atrica in Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Booth No. 48085

Richardson, TX, May 26, 2005 — -

WHY:

Service providers are facing increased competitive pressures in both residential and enterprise markets. By consolidating their network services delivery architecture, service providers can deliver differentiated triple play solutions (voice, video and high-speed data) to residential customers and also offer unique variations of traditional residential and enterprise services to small- and medium-sized businesses and enterprise customers.

WHAT:

The Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) SUPERDemo at SUPERCOMM® 2005 will highlight ultimate connectivity for business and triple-play residential applications. Alliance partners Fujitsu and Atrica™ will demonstrate a converged services delivery architecture that provides residential and business-class voice, data and video services over a variety of access networks.

The demonstration will feature several types of Fujitsu products, including the market-leading FLASHWAVE® 7500 Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer (ROADM), a PRIMERGY® BX600 blade server and LifeBook® laptop computers. Carrier Ethernet equipment from Atrica will include an A-2100 Ethernet edge switch, A-8100 metro aggregation switch, A-200 optical Ethernet demarcation device, A-100 compact optical Ethernet demarcation device and ASPEN™, a comprehensive service provisioning and management system. The resulting Ethernet Aggregation Network (EAN) will comply with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) TR-123.qos [4].

The demonstration by Fujitsu and Atrica will illustrate how service providers can combine a converged and scalable core network with a carrier-class EAN to create new possibilities for residential, small- and medium-sized businesses and enterprise customers. This consolidated network services delivery architecture will enable:

  • Complete voice, video and data triple play services for residential customers, supporting Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) and Video on Demand (VOD) applications with industry-leading optimized Layer 2 MultiProtocol Label Switching (MPLS) multicast
  • IPTV services for small- and medium-sized businesses and enterprise customers
  • Ethernet-accessed Layer 2 Virtual Private Network (VPN) and IP VPN services for small- and medium-sized businesses and enterprise customers, and feature the industry’s first flexible multipoint Virtual Private LAN Service with Traffic Engineering (VPLS-TE) capability
  • Mission-critical E-Line and E-LAN Ethernet services for small- and medium-sized businesses and enterprise customers
