Fujitsu Microelectronics to Introduce Advanced 16-bit F2MC-16FX Series with Enhanced 32-bit Automotive Controllers at Convergence 2008
New F2MC-16FX Series and Latest FR Series Microcontrollers for Vehicle Body Control, Infotainment, FlexRay Design to be Displayed at Booth 819
Convergence 2008, Detroit, October 21, 2008 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) will feature its newest 16-bit F2MC-16FX, along with enhanced versions of its 32-bit FR series, at Convergence 2008 in Detroit, Oct. 20-22. The company will demonstrate the optimal cost and performance the controllers provide for new generations of meter cluster, car body control, vehicle infotainment and FlexRay™ applications.
In booth 819, FMA will highlight its new 16-bit F2MC-16FX controller family, designed to meet the emerging requirements for automotive safety, reliability and passenger-comfort applications including dashboards, air-conditioning control, anti-lock braking systems, and power steering. The new versions provide RISC-like performance, based on an improved CPU architecture with significantly increased internal bus bandwidth over the predecessor series, the F2MC-16LX.
The new 16FX series combines the advantages of 16- and 32- bit architectures, with C-code efficiency that benefits from the 16-bit instruction set, and instruction pipelining, a technique widely used in 32-bit RISC ICs. The 16FX can operate as fast as 56MHz, more than twice the speed of its predecessor. Overall performance can be up to six times the performance of the 16LX generation. Fujitsu is fully supporting the new F2MC-16FX series with the SOFTUNE Integrated Development Environment (IDE), which provides a complete toolkit for applications design using the new controllers.
Enhanced 32-bit FR Series Delivers Top Performance for Body Control, FlexRay Applications
Fujitsu also will show the latest versions of its 32-bit MB91460 series with FR CPU core, an established set of controllers for the full range of body control, infotainment and FlexRay applications. These controllers are built around the Fujitsu FR70 core, which can operate at enhanced rates up to 100MHz. The members of this series incorporate up to 4MB embedded flash, prefetch/cache architectures, flash security, and other functions designed to support emerging vehicle applications. The series provides gateway functionality, and enables the integration of multiple in-vehicle CAN networks.
The 16-bit F2MC-16LX and 32-bit FR families are popular in automotive markets for use with the Controller Area Network (CAN) 2.0B compliant I/F module.
