Fujitsu Announces that ALT Software Will Develop OpenGL Embedded Software Platform for Fujitsu's Coral-P/PA Graphics Controller

San Francisco, CA, March 7, 2005 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) and ALT Software Inc. announced today that ALT Software will provide 2D/3D graphics drivers designed to enable FMA's Coral-P/PA graphics display controller to operate on ALT's OpenGL® and OpenGL ES architectures.

As part of a new agreement between FMA and ALT Software, the graphics software leader will develop drawing primitives and initialization software for FMA's Coral-P/PA GDC. ALT also will create Windows CE 5.0 2D display, DirectX 2D, and DirectX 3D device drivers for the Coral-P/PA.

Introduced in 2004, the Coral-P/PA is the newest member of Fujitsu's family of graphics display controllers, developed for advanced in-vehicle navigational and video display applications. The 32-bit MB86296 graphics display controller is built with a powerful geometry engine that performs precise numerical operations for graphics processing. The GDC includes a 32-bit, 33MHz PCI interface that enables industry-leading data transfer at 70MB/second.

As part of the agreement, ALT Software will market the Coral-P/PA GDC with fully accelerated OpenGL and OpenGL ES drivers in various vertical markets. Fujitsu will provide technical programming specifications and Coral-P/PA hardware, along with graphics hardware initialization source code and technical support.

OpenGL ES is a royalty-free, cross-platform API for full-function 2D and 3D graphics on embedded systems - including handheld devices, appliances and vehicles. It is a well-defined subset of the OpenGL desktop API, creating a flexible and powerful low-level interface between software and graphics acceleration.

"ALT Software will work as a strategic partner with Fujitsu Microelectronics on current and future graphics display control technology," said Keith Horn, senior vice president of marketing and sales for Fujitsu Microelectronics America. "ALT provides a comprehensive set of professional software development and support services, with industry-leading expertise in OpenGL platform design."

"ALT selected Fujitsu's CoralP/PA driver because of its low powered functionality, industrial rating and 3D graphics capability,” said Chris Brady, president of ALT Software Inc. "ALT's embedded OpenGL solution coupled with the CoralP/PA provides an excellent product to be integrated in rugged environments, including automotive/telematics industrial controls and handheld devices."
