Fujitsu to Demonstrate Industry-Leading, 10Gbps Ethernet Switch Chip with CX4 Interface at Annual NDSC, Booth 325
Sunnyvale, CA, October 19, 2004 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) will feature its second-generation 10Gbps Ethernet switch chip technology – built with the CX4 interface – at the annual Network Systems Design Conference October 19-21 at Parkside Hall in San Jose. Fujitsu will feature its latest evaluation board, which can drive data over distances up to 30 meters. Greenfield Networks will join Fujitsu in booth 325 with its new Packetry™ technology.
The Fujitsu MB87Q3070 Ethernet switch chip, introduced earlier this year, incorporates a CX4 high-speed electrical interface macro, which enables the use of copper cabling in place of optical interfaces in the interconnects between the switch chassis. System designers can use the switch chip to develop compact, low-power, low-cost switches for servers, data centers, clusters, and enterprise computing. The 12-port, 10Gbps Ethernet switch implementation using the MB87Q3070 requires only 37 watts of power and is designed in a 2U box.
The MB87Q3070 includes high-speed buffer memories, SerDes interface, an IEEE 802.3ae-compliant 10Gbps Ethernet MAC, and eXAUI high-speed I/O macros capable of driving 25 meter of the copper CX4 cable. The switch chip delivers an aggregate bandwidth of 240Gbps. The high-speed I/O eXAUI macro supports standard XAUI and IEEE 802.3ak (10GBASE-CX4), well beyond the 15-meter CX4 standards.
Roundtable on ASICs, FPGAs and Network Processors
Marwan Majid, director of marketing for Fujitsu Microelectronics America, will also take part in a roundtable discussion, Open Session 304, on Tuesday, October 19. The session is entitled “ASICs, FPGAs, Fixed-Function Chips, Platform ASICs, and Network Processors: Which Is the Answer for Today’s Networking Equipment?” Chaired by Jordan Selburn, senior analyst at iSuppli Corporation, the session is scheduled for 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Majid will discuss the features of AccelArray™, Fujitsu’s innovative design platform, and the company’s new Integrated Device Manufacturing (IDM) business model. IDM provides a comprehensive set of design, manufacturing, and packaging capabilities, along with a broad portfolio of IP and libraries to serve specific customer requirements.
Packetry Technology from Greenfield Networks
Also in booth 325, Greenfield Networks will demonstrate its new Packetry family of Ethernet switching solutions. Packetry provides configurable packet processing and traffic-management silicon for a broad range of networking equipment in enterprise and metro markets. In May, FMA delivered three high-performance ASICs to Greenfield Networks, , an emerging leader in next-generation network technology.
