Fujitsu Adds New 32-Bit Microcontrollers to FR60Lite Family

Designed with inverter control functionality for home-appliance applications

Detroit, MI, October 18, 2004 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) has added two low-power, single-chip 32-bit microcontrollers to its growing FR60Lite family, adding inverter-control capabilities to offer a flexible level of control for motor-control applications, typically for industrial and home appliances.

The new MB91F267 and MB91266 incorporate multifunction timers for inverter control of motors in advanced air conditioners, refrigerators, washing machines, vacuum cleaners and other appliances. Inverter equipment inputs a direct current (DC) that is changed into alternating current (AC).

The 32-bit RISC core in the FR60Lite series is the industry’s most efficient, with power requirements of less than 2 milliamperes per MHz. The RISC core enables a rapid execution speed because basic instructions are completed in a single clock with an optimized pipeline.

The MB91F267 includes 4 Kbytes of RAM and 128 Kbytes flash memory; the MB91266 incorporates 2 Kbytes RAM and 64 Kbytes ROM. Both devices use between 4V and 5.5V of power, operate at 33MHz and include two UARTs. Each device also incorporates dual 8/10-bit A/D converters modules that can operate in parallel, one with four channels, the other with seven. The A/D converters deliver a rapid, 1.2 microsecond, complete conversion speed. The MAC circuit incorporated in each model enables parallel processing by reducing the CPU load and adding speed and total processing power.

“These new 32-bit FR60Lite MCUs provide the inverter control required to reduce or eliminate noise and vibration in home-appliance designs,” said Akio Nezu, senior marketing manager for the Embedded Products group at Fujitsu Microelectronics America. “The new devices deliver state-of-the-art performance in a compact, 64-pin package, and enable designers to design efficient and accurate motor control applications.”

Pricing and Availability

The new MCU samples are available now in 64-pin quad flat packs, which reduce the mounting area. Prices begin at $7.82 each for MB91F267 and $3.40 each for MB91266 in 1,000-unit pieces.
