Fujitsu MBF310 Sweep Sensor™Designed into New JumpDrive™ TouchGuard USB Flash Drive from Lexar Media

Cogent systems provides world-class software algorithms for MBF310

Sunnyvale, CA, September 28, 2004 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) announced today that its MBF310 Sweep Sensor™, powered by algorithms developed by Cogent Systems, has been designed into the JumpDrive TouchGuard™, the newest USB portable storage product from Lexar Media.

The JumpDrive TouchGuard, like other versions of the USB JumpDrives from Lexar Media, lets users store and transfer data between PCs. By adding the MBF310 Sweep Sensor with Cogent Systems software, the JumpDrive TouchGuard replaces awkward passwords with the convenience of a finger swipe, to control access to data stored on the JumpDrive TouchGuard.

"JumpDrive TouchGuard joins an already robust line of USB Flash drives available from Lexar. What's unique is the Sweep Sensor technology built into the device," said David Klenske, director of product management at Lexar. "The MBF310 fingerprint sensor from Fujitsu, combined with the software from Cogent Systems, provides a simple, easy-to-use password-replacement solution, in Lexar's popular JumpDrive packaging. With just a sweep of a finger, the customer will have access to all their Internet addresses and log-in information."

"JumpDrive TouchGuard sets a new standard for convenient and secure portable storage devices, and we are very pleased to work with Lexar Media on this leading-edge product," said Mike Chaudoin, senior marketing manager of Fujitsu's Biometric Products Group. "The MBF310 Sweep Sensor was developed specifically for easy integration into this type of small, lower power, portable product. The addition of sweep sensor software from Cogent Systems provides proven fingerprint processing from a leader in the industry, ensuring Lexar a state-of-the-art solution."

"Cogent Systems is pleased to join Fujitsu Microelectronics America in delivering this state-of-the-art solution to Lexar Media. Cogent Systems is a proven leader in delivering robust and accurate fingerprint solutions to customers in commercial and government markets. The MBF310 from Fujitsu, as integrated into the Lexar Media JumpDrive TouchGuard, provides a fast and convenient way to control access to data on the USB flash drive," said Chris Crump, director of Commercial Products for Cogent Systems.

The MBF310 Sweep Sensor was developed by Fujitsu Microelectronics America for computer and handheld product applications. Designed to let device manufacturers add security and convenience at minimal cost, the MBF310 features forensic quality 500 DPI, 8-bit grayscale images. The advanced Auto-Finger Detection (AFD) circuit provides for auto-on capabilities, saving system power. The MBF310 SPI interface allows for fast finger swiping via the JumpDrive TouchGuard USB 2.0 interface. The MBF310's compact design and patented FBGA package optimizes device durability, power consumption and manufacturability, making it ideal for high-volume portable storage and portable communication products.
