Fujitsu Microelectronics America to Introduce New Mobile Media Processors, Embedded CPU and Giga Frame Platforms at Electronics USA March 30
New MCUs, FRAM and biometric sensor ICs also on display in booth 726
Sunnyvale, CA, March 29, 2004 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America (FMA) will announce its new Mobile Media Processors (MMPs) and new AccelArrayä design platforms at the Electronica USA/Embedded System Conference, March 30 to April 2 at San Francisco's Moscone Center.
Mobile Media Processors
The new MMPs (MB86V00 and MB86V01), designed for cellular phones, PDAs and other handheld devices, incorporate MPEG-4 and
JPEG hardware encoding and decoding functionality. The devices include two-dimensional and three-dimensional (2D/3D) graphics
accelerators with a 24bpp display controller. The modules interface with two LCDs, enabling users to display multiple images
simultaneously on two separate screens. The devices feature a flexible CPU interface that enables easy connection to existing
baseband or application processors. For more information, visit www.fma.fujitsu.com/mmp/.
AccelArray for Vertical Market Segments
The first version of Fujitsu's new Embedded CPU Platform, based on the ARM9 processor, is built around an ARM926 embedded
processor architecture widely used in applications such as metro area and enterprise network systems, medical scanners, ultrasound
systems, servers and tape drives. The ARM9 embedded CPU platform delivers a processor clock speed of 200MHz, with 4Mbits of
memory and a gate count that can reach three million.
The new AccelArray Giga Frames incorporate pre-diffused high-speed Giga PHY (GPHY) macros that provide a point-to-point, full-duplex, differential, serial communications link capable of transferring data at rates ranging from 622Mbps to 3.125Gbps.
"These new technology and products represent very exciting additions to the company's product portfolio," said Keith Horn, FMA's vice president of marketing. "They position Fujitsu Microelectronics as an innovative leader in two important and competitive markets at the leading edge of the electronics industry." Single-chip 10GbE Switch IC
This month FMA and Fujitsu Laboratories of America also announced the newest version of their 10Gbps Ethernet switch technology,
a 10GbE IC that incorporates a CX-4 macro, www.fma.fujitsu.com/10Gethernet. The new switch lets designers use copper cabling instead of expensive optical interfaces in the interconnects between the
switch chassis, and enables data transfer at distances over one meter in the backplane.
14-bit DAC
This month Fujitsu Microelectronics also introduced the industry's first 1 Giga sample/second Digital-to-Analog Converter
(DAC), www.fma.fujitsu.com/DAC, which is designed for a wide range of applications including base stations and test equipment.
