Fujitsu Microelectronics America and Cogent Systems to Collaborate to Provide Comprehensive Fingerprint Biometric Solutions
Industry leaders will enable hardware-software solutions for physical and logical access control, network and mobile security
Sunnyvale, CA, December 16, 2003 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA), a leader in biometric fingerprint sensor hardware, and Cogent Systems Inc., a leading developer of integrated biometric solutions, will collaborate on the development of new biometric security designs for government and commercial applications. The two companies will develop solutions for network security, physical and logical access control, positive ID for identity documents, and mobile/wireless security.
Under this new collaboration, Cogent’s world-class fingerprint-matching algorithms and its SecureARMTM biometric-matching ASIC will support Fujitsu's MBF200 capacitive single-touch fingerprint sensor and MBF310 capacitive fingerprint Sweep SensorTM. The Fujitsu fingerprint sensors provide durable, cost-effective, high-resolution fingerprint images that meet the demands of today’s biometric security systems. Cogent Systems is a world leader in biometric identification systems, providing solutions from nationally distributed network Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems, standalone desktop systems, and systems on a single ASIC chip. The company’s positive ID products serve the law enforcement, civil government and commercial markets.
“Together, Fujitsu Microelectronics and Cogent Systems will collaborate on complete solutions for fingerprint biometric security applications required for government applications and commercial users,᾿ said Mike Chaudoin, senior strategic marketing manager of the Biometric Products Group at Fujitsu Microelectronics. “Cogent is a leading integrator of biometric technology and has a great deal of experience in the fingerprint biometrics market. We are pleased to work with them to combine the best of Fujitsu's fingerprint sensor technology with their world-class matching algorithms, application software and embedded systems designs. The results will be reliable, cost-effective, accurate fingerprint biometric solutions for today’s growing security needs,᾿ Chaudoin added.
“The Fujitsu capacitive-based fingerprint sensors deliver high-quality, 500-dpi, 8-bit greyscale images that meet the fingerprint sensor requirements of our industry-leading fingerprint matching algorithms,᾿ said Dr. Bruno Lassus, vice president of Identity Solutions at Cogent. “The Fujitsu biometric sensors enable us to extend our solutions for positive ID. Corporations and consumers are now willing to strengthen information systems’ access by replacing pin codes by cost-effective and efficient biometric solutions. The results of our collaboration will include products that meet the fast-growing demand for robust identity document-holder validation, physical and logical access control, network authentication and other uses.᾿
