Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc.
Sunnyvale, CA, April 8, 2003 — A new ultra-compact series of 16-bit flash microcontrollers from Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) delivers excellent value for user-interface control systems in handheld appliances and as smart remote controllers or home appliances.
The MB90455 16LX family of 16-bit MCUs includes three controllers, the MB90F455, MB90F456 and MB90F457, which are the latest additions to Fujitsu’s 16LX series of high-performance, low-power microcontroller products. All incorporate between 24 Kbytes and 64 Kbytes of both Mask ROM and flash memory, and include 2 Kbytes of RAM. Each member of the series supports the multiple power-saving modes that are essential in battery-operated devices and similar applications.
“Fujitsu Microelectronics has expanded its family of compact, cost-efficient, 16-bit microcontrollers,᾿ said Keith Horn, FMA’s vice president of marketing. “These flexible, well-designed controllers meet the demand for reliable performance and lower power in multi-function remote-control products and other handheld systems.᾿
Accemic MDE Simplifies Debugging
The devices are available with the Accemic MDE monitor debugger, a source-level and symbolic debugger for embedded C applications with features that microcontroller developers needed but which were often not available. Accemic allows users to quickly review the functions of all control registers, without needing to look them up. It also lets users place variables into a watch window using drag and drop, among other timesaving features.
Also available is an in-circuit emulation kit, the Compact-ICE MB2147-05, which can be used to debug flash or ROM without requiring external RAM or evaluation chips. The MB2147-05 can be connected to the target system using standard Fujitsu probe cables.
Pricing and Availability
The MB90455 16LX flash MCU family operates in voltage ranges between 3.5V and 5.5V, and comes in a 48-pin LQFP, which measures only 7 mm x 7 mm. Pricing starts at $2.65 each in 10,000-unit volume for the Mask ROM version, and $5 each in 10,000-piece units of the flash-based version.
