Fujitsu Microelectronics Introduces High-speed, High-density 0.11 micron CS91 Standard Cell Series for Advanced Networking and Low-power Wireless Designs

Offers large selection of standard cell libraries, memory macros, IP cores

San Jose, CA, March 25, 2002 — Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) today introduced its CS91 CMOS Standard Cell Series, based on the company's leading-edge 0.11 micron (drawn) process technology and featuring a broad range of versatile libraries.

The new CS91 Series provides a broad portfolio of high-speed and high-density cells for ASIC designs. The cell library, which features accurate timing and power-characterized data, cell areas and wire-load models, supports a host of third-party tools and data-exchange file standards. The CS91, which is the latest in Fujitsu's proven ASIC technology, supplies I/O options ranging from 622 Megabits per second to 3.125 Gigabits per second operating at industry-standard 0.8V to 3.6V voltage interface levels. Cores run at 0.8V to 1.3V.

The series is designed for high-end networking systems based on the 10-Gigabit Ethernet, OC-192 or OC-768 standards. The standard cells also include all the capabilities required for set-top boxes, storage, gateway and similar network access systems, as well as for cellular handsets, PDAs, and other mobile and handheld devices.

The CS91 continues Fujitsu's long tradition of design and process technology leadership. "With this versatile new series we are focusing on the fastest-growing network and communications applications such as wide, metro and local area network systems and wireless products," said Keith Horn, FMA's vice president of marketing. "Our CMOS process has now achieved speeds typical of more expensive silicon germanium or gallium arsenide technologies, and we expect to exceed 10-Gigabits/second speeds in the not-too-distant future."

Full Roster of Standard Cell Options, SOC Cores, Memory Macros
The series includes a variety of standard cell options, including the CS91HU libraries for ultra high-performance designs; the CS91HZ for high-performance systems that require lower power; the CS91HN for high-performance, low-leakage designs; and the CS91SN for handheld products that require high density and much lower power.

The CS91 Series is available with a full set of I/O options, including 2.5V and 3.3V CMOS, SSTL, HSTL, LVDS and other transceivers, which provide customers with an unprecedented level of integration with the resulting power-saving benefits.

The new series provides an industry-leading set of high-performance and area-optimized memory macros and compilers, which range from small size to 4Mbit SRAM, ROM and other memory types. Among the cores are mixed-signal blocks, analog functions, a wide range of IP cores and I/O interfaces.

SOC cores will include OC3 and OC12 SONET Framer Utopia I/II, 10/100 MAC, ARC3 (+DSP extensions) and ARC tangent-A4 (+DSP), ARM926J-E and ARM 946 E-S.

There is also a full suite of controller cores, including ARM Cache, FCRAM, SDRAM DDR and an 8-channel DMA controller, UART and interrupt controller. For wireless designs, Bluetooth and a full range of IEEE 802.11 cores will be available.

A set of standard bus interface and bus bridge cores including USB 2.0, 1394 PHY and Link layers, PCIX and PCI will be available. Mixed signal and analog macros will include 8-bit and 10-bit A-to-D converters running at 1MS/s to 80MS/s, and 8-bit, 10-bit and 12-bit D-to-A converters running as high as 200MS/s.

"We continue to add IPs constantly, so our customers will have as many performance, speed, power and function options as possible," Horn said.

Packaging and Availability
Fujitsu offers the CS91 Series in several packaging options: Flip Chip BGA packages (ceramic or organic substrate) designed for high-speed backplane applications at 2.5 Gbps or 3.125 Gbps I/O with pin counts ranging from 450 to 2,116; enhanced and TAB Ball Grid Arrays; Fine-pitch (Chip-scale packaging) BGAs; facedown head spreader BGAs; and high-density QFPs.

The CS91 Series is available now, with NRE prices depending on the complexity of the design.
