President Bush's State of the Union Address Utilizes Latest High Definition Video Technology
CBS News Purchases Fujitsu’s IP-9500 Encoders for MPEG-4 AVC High-Definition Feeds
Sunnyvale, CA, April 14, 2008 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a leading provider of broadcast video technology and innovative computer products, today announced that the Fujitsu IP-9500 MPEG-4 AVC Encoder was used for CBS News’ live television broadcast of the 2008 Presidential State of the Union Address. The project enabled high quality MPEG-4 HD video transmission from Washington DC to the CBS Network Operations Center in New York.
"We’re very proud to support CBS in their first use of High Definition (HD) MPEG-4 AVC compression for a network broadcast," said Vic Herring, senior director, video solutions group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "HDTV image quality enhances the experience of the audience and leads to greater engagement in live events. Broadcasters need high-quality video technology to transmit live national news events such as the President’s State of the Union Address, and the Fujitsu IP-9500 MPEG-4 AVC HD Encoder fulfills this need."
CBS News has purchased a number of IP-9500 Encoders for coverage of the upcoming Republican and Democratic Presidential Nominating Conventions and the Presidential Inauguration. After these events, the units will be used by CBS News bureaus, and for satellite newsgathering applications.
Fujitsu’s MPEG-4 AVC compression technology, developed by Fujitsu and Fujitsu Laboratories, enables transmission of high-quality HD video at data rates traditionally associated with Standard Definition television feeds. The IP-9500’s Best-of-Class picture quality at low bit-rates and low-latency enables HD satellite newsgathering and transmission of live events with little or no changes to the current broadcast satellite infrastructure.
Upcoming Demonstrations
