Fujitsu Assists Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley in Contributing Towards Affordable Housing Opportunities

Sunnyvale, CA, March 19, 2008 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., one of the world’s leading suppliers of innovative computer products including hard disk drives, peripherals and Ethernet switches, worked together with Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley on two separate occasions to help construct two-story homes that will provide clean and stable housing for families in need. Over two-dozen Fujitsu employees, including President and CEO, Yoshi Masuda, and the executive management team, volunteered alongside Habitat staff and volunteers at Mission Springs Court in San Jose, hanging windows, installing housewrap moisture barriers, and applying shingles to roofs.

Since 1986, Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, has been committed to eliminating substandard living conditions in Santa Clara Valley. The non-profit organization has built 38 homes in the Santa Clara Valley with the help of partner families and volunteers, as well as through generous donations of money and materials. Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley partners with hardworking, deserving, low-income families to build clean and stable housing, thereby improving the health, physical safety, and security for partner families. In the long run, the educational and job prospects for these families increase, and their sense of dignity and pride grows. Habitat houses are built by volunteers, staff, and partner families who contribute a minimum of 500 hours of “sweat equity,” and finance the homes themselves with affordable, no-interest loans.

“The overwhelming cost of housing, especially in the Santa Clara Valley, has created large financial obstacles for families to overcome, leaving them with little or no money to cover basic necessities such as food, clothing and healthcare,” said Robert Freiri, executive director, Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley. “Through Fujitsu’s dedication to helping our community through its employees’ volunteer work, we empower families that would not otherwise be able to afford decent housing, and provide them with more hope for the future.”

"Fujitsu believes in giving back to the community it works in,” said Yoshi Masuda, president and CEO, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. “Many employees including our executive staff participated in this program to help contribute to society and build teamwork. We are very honored to have worked with Habitat for Humanity Silicon Valley in this home-building project that we hope will leave a positive and lasting impact on partner families who will occupy the homes we built together.”
