Fujitsu Integrates Latest Version of Kofax VirtualReScan Technology into Document Imaging Scanner Line

San Jose, CA, October 04, 2004 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc., a market leader in document imaging scanners and services, today announced the integration of the newest version of Kofax® VRS® (VirtualReScan®) image-perfecting technology into the company’s scanner line. Kofax VRS 3.5 will now be incorporated into the Fujitsu fi-4120C, fi-4220C, fi-4530C and fi-4340C duplex color document scanners. Fujitsu will be demonstrating its entire enterprise scanner line during ARMA International's 49th Annual Conference in Long Beach, Calif., October 3-6, 2004.

Fujitsu, always maintaining its leadership in the document imaging price-versus-performance market, also announced the scanners will maintain their same low price while incorporating Kofax’s latest VRS technology.

VRS has become the de facto industry standard for scanning productivity by improving the readability of scanned documents through automatically straightening, cropping and optimizing their exposure in real time. Fujitsu was the first vendor to offer Kofax VRS technology with its scanners and, since then, has continued to significantly deepen its partnership with the world’s largest information capture vendor. The VRS hardware and software integration with the Fujitsu wide range of scanners enables customers to complete document capture tasks more efficiently and at a lower cost.

About the Fujitsu fi-4120C, fi-4220C, fi-4530C and fi-4340C Scanners

The affordable, compact-size Fujitsu fi-4120C and fi-4220C color duplex workgroup scanners are perfect for decentralized applications. Their exceptional high-capacity paper handling, high productivity, and selectable RGB color dropout makes forms processing simple. The scanners are equipped with a 50-page automatic document feeder (ADF) and come equipped with ScandAll 21 TWAIN Scan Utility and standard on-board JPEG hardware compression.

About VRS (VirtualReScan)

Kofax VRS software enables high accuracy in data captured from scanned documents, significantly reducing the need for manual corrections of intelligent character recognition (ICR) and optical character recognition (OCR) results. As images pass through a scanner, the VRS software performs a multi-point inspection of each document. VRS instantly checks and adjusts for alignment (skew), brightness, contrast, and image clarity. Any inconsistencies are immediately corrected by VRS so that only the straightest, most readable images are processed.

The use of VRS software as part of the document capture process will result in lower operating costs due to increased automated recognition accuracy, fewer re-scans, easier-to-read images, and a significant reduction in the manual labor required to presort documents and change scanner settings.
