Fujitsu to Demonstrate Small Form Factor Serial Attached SCSI Hard Disk Drive Prototypes at SAS Plugfest 2004

WHAT:

Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), one of the world's leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals, today announced that it will demonstrate its prototype small form factor (SFF) 3Gb/second serial attached SCSI (SAS) hard disk drive for next generation enterprise storage solutions at SAS Plugfest 2004. The Fujitsu SAS interface leverages the recognized benefits of SCSI with the latest serial technology. Fujitsu expects SAS to become the enterprise I/O interface of choice for the new 2.5" small form factor enterprise hard disk drives.

In December 2003, Fujitsu announced that customers have begun testing the SFF 3Gb/second SAS hard disk drive interface to take advantage of smaller footprint hard disk drives and the increased performance associated with serial attached SCSI. The Fujitsu enterprise hard disk drive will offer up to 73.5GB of storage coupled with a SAS interface delivering a 300MB/s data transfer rate.

SAS Plugfest 2004

SAS Plugfest 2004 is an industry-wide device interoperability event. The first SAS Plugfest will take place at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory in Durham, New Hampshire. More than a dozen companies are expected to participate, including the industries' leading hard disk drive, controller, test equipment, cable, connector and system suppliers.

The event will be used as a forum to build confidence in SAS designs by testing multi-vendor interoperability, SCSI backward compatibility and other related technology issues.
