Fujitsu ScanSnap!™ Receives CES Innovations 2004 Design & Engineering Showcase Award

Fujitsu To Showcase Award-Winning Scanning Solution at the 2004 International CES Conference

San Jose, CA, January 05, 2004 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), a market leader in document imaging scanners and services, today announced that its ScanSnap!™ scanning solution was selected by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) as an honoree of the prestigious CES Innovations 2004 Design and Engineering Showcase Award in the Small Office/Home Office category.

The Fujitsu ScanSnap!, a compact, upright, one-touch color scanner, allows users to quickly convert paper documents into searchable PDF files that are easily shared, organized and protected. The Fujtisu scanner was selected as an award winner by the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) Innovations 2004 panel of judges and will be on display at two locations during the International CES Conference in Las Vegas, January 8-11, 2004.

CES attendees can visit Fujitsu's booth #21321, located in the Las Vegas Convention Center, South Hall 3&4, to view hands-on demonstrations of ScanSnap!. The Fujitsu ScanSnap! will also be displayed at the Innovations booth #70311 in the Las Vegas Convention Center, Silver Exhibits, for all conference attendees to view.  

Since 1989, the Innovations Design and Engineering Awards Showcase has given consumer technology manufacturers and developers an opportunity to have their newest products judged by a preeminent panel of independent industry designers, engineers and journalists. For the ninth year, the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) endorsed and acted as advisors to the Innovations Design & Engineering Showcase. The Innovations judges based their decisions on the following weighted criteria: User value, aesthetics, contributions to the quality of life, and innovative design and qualities.

ScanSnap! Features

The Fujitsu ScanSnap! scanning solution -- a compact, upright color scanner that scans two-sided color documents at speeds up to 15 pages per minute (ppm) and 30 images per minute (ipm) -- provides users with a simple method for converting paper to digital PDF image files at the touch of a button. The ScanSnap! scanner offers "always on" convenience, simple connectivity, automatic color, page size, blank-page detection, and a small footprint (12.2" x 6.1" x 5.1") allowing it to sit comfortably aside the individual business professional in the office.  

Fujitsu's ScanSnap! provides a simple user interface that requires no special training in order for the user to be immediately productive. The scanner connects to the PC via the USB port allowing for quick installation and use. Multi-page documents containing color and black and white, text and graphic information, and text on one or both sides are automatically processed into searchable Adobe PDF files at the touch of a button. These ScanSnap! features can be done with simplex or duplex color scanning delivered with only one pass-through the scanner. The resulting Adobe PDF images are stored in the Windows file system on a local PC or network, allowing the user to interact with this information as they would with any other file.

In addition, the scanner is equipped with a 50-page automatic document feeder (ADF), a complete version of Adobe® Acrobat® 6.0 Standard software, a $299 (U.S. list) value, and CardMinder™, an application designed to capture images and information contained on either side of a business card. This information can then be easily exported to such databases as ACT!, Goldmine, Outlook and Outlook Express.

Fujitsu's ScanSnap! scanning solution with Acrobat 6.0 Standard software -- a $299 value (U.S. list) -- is available now for $495 (U.S. list) through the Fujitsu web site located at http://scansnap.fujitsu.com, via mail order catalogs, and via Fujitsu authorized resellers.
