Fujitsu Unveils ScanSnap! Scanner With Adobe® Acrobat® 6.0

Award-Winning Fujitsu Scanner Brings Fast, Easy, Color, Scanning to Business Professionals; Purchasers Eligible for $50 Rebate

(FCPA), a market leader in document imaging scanners and services, today announced availability of the Fujitsu ScanSnap! scanning solution that includes a complete version of the recently introduced Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Standard software, further enabling business professionals to quickly convert paper documents into searchable Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) files that are easily shared, organized and protected.

Since its introduction in Spring 2003, the award-winning Fujitsu ScanSnap! scanning solution has garnered attention and rave reviews from technology media, industry analysts, organization consultants and its core intended audience of small- and medium-sized businesses across numerous vertical markets, including the document-intensive real estate and small office healthcare segments. Now, with Acrobat 6.0 Standard included in the box, ScanSnap! users have even more features and functionality to create, share, review, and archive files.

Acrobat 6.0 Standard includes new functions, including an expanded set of collaboration features for managing document-based reviews. Acrobat 6.0 Standard also includes expanded security and authentication features for encrypting and digitally signing documents.

• Automatically create a list of reviewers and track whether feedback is received.
• Indicate text edits such as insertions, deletions, and replacements with a single keystroke; add custom stamps; and use sticky notes and highlights to comment on documents.
• Gather comments from multiple reviewers into a single Adobe PDF file, or view them collectively in a separate window and export comments to Microsoft Word 2002 to eliminate retyping.
• Increase file security with password protection to prevent unauthorized users from opening and viewing sensitive documents.
• Apply permissions with 128-bit encryption that control whether users are allowed to view, edit, comment on, sign, or print Adobe PDF files.
• Approve final documents with digital signatures, verify authenticity and build a list of trusted certificates.

ScanSnap! Features

The Fujitsu ScanSnap! scanning solution -- a compact, upright color scanner that scans two-sided color documents at speeds up to 15 pages per minute (ppm) and 30 images per minute (ipm) -- provides users with a simple method for converting paper to digital PDF image files at the touch of a button.  The ScanSnap! scanner offers "always on" convenience, simple connectivity, automatic color, page size, and blank-page detection, and a small footprint (12.2" x 6.1" x 5.1") allowing it to sit comfortably aside the individual business professional in the office.  

Fujitsu's ScanSnap! provides a simple user interface that requires no special training in order for the user to be immediately productive.  The scanner connects to the PC via USB port allowing for quick installation and use.  Multi-page documents containing color and black and white, text and graphic information, and text on one or both sides are automatically processed into searchable Adobe PDF files at the touch of a button, with simplex or duplex color scanning delivered with only one pass-through the scanner.  The resulting Adobe PDF images are stored in the Windows file system on a local PC or network, allowing the user to interact with this information as they would with any other file.  Its Adobe PDF thumbnail view feature makes project management even easier.

In addition, the scanner is equipped with a 50-page automatic document feeder (ADF), a complete version of Acrobat 6.0 Standard software, a $299 (U.S. list) value, and CardMinder, an application designed to capture images and information contained on either side of a business card.  This information can then be easily exported to such databases as ACT!, Goldmine, Outlook and Outlook Express.

Pricing and Availability

Today's announcement brings the full functionality of Acrobat 6.0 Standard software -- a $299 value (U.S. list) -- to Fujitsu ScanSnap! scanning solution customers at the same original product price of $495 (U.S. list).  Moreover, Fujitsu today announced that customers who purchase ScanSnap! from July 1, 2003 through December 31, 2003, are eligible for a $50 rebate.  Customers with proof of purchase can claim the rebate by filling out the "Rebate Claim Form" posted on authorized Direct Marketing Reseller (DMR) Web sites and mailing to Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc.¹

Fujitsu ScanSnap! comes standard with a 1-year depot limited warranty.  Advance Exchange, Fujitsu's overnight replacement program provides a replacement scanner before the return to Fujitsu of the malfunctioning scanner.
