Fujitsu Hard Disk Drives Recognized By Sun Microsystems For Outstanding Performance and Quality
San Jose, CA, October 2, 2003 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), one of the world's leading suppliers of hard disk drives and computer peripherals, today announced it has received the, "Meritorious Performance" award from Sun Microsystems, Inc. for the second consecutive year. The award recognizes FCPA as a leader in its field and a top supplier of hard disk drive (HDD) products for Sun's enterprise storage solutions during fiscal year 2003.
The Sun Supplier Performance awards, announced today in a press release, as well as an advertisement in the Western US and Asian editions of the Wall Street Journal, honor outstanding performance, particularly in the areas of supplier cost effectiveness, quality, availability and technology.

The Sun Meritorious award is yet another validation of the progress and strength of FCPA's HDD program. In the past year Fujitsu introduced a number of industry leading hard disk drives including volume availability of the MAS 15,000RPM enterprise hard disk drive. In the coming year, Fujitsu will also focus on small form factor enterprise and mobile hard disk drives offering increased performance at a fraction of the size.
An industry leading rotational speed of 15,000RPMs reduces the average rotational latency to 2ms, an improvement of 33% over 10K RPM hard disk drives. Minimizing rotational latency and seek times are the key factors that improve system response time/performance in demanding transaction processing applications such as banking, POS and reservation systems.
Other new technologies include reduced acoustic levels via the use of FDB (Fluid Dynamic Bearings) and the introduction of "Acceleration Feed Forward," a method of canceling out rotational vibration/shock resulting in improved performance.
