Fujitsu and Kofax Join Forces And Expand Imaging Industry Partnership
Fujitsu the First Imaging Vendor to Integrate Kofax VirtualReScan Software Across Entire Enterprise Scanner Family
San Jose, CA, September 23, 2003 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), a market leader in document imaging scanners and services, and Kofax Image Products, Inc., the world's largest information capture vendor, today announced they are expanding their existing strategic partnership. After years of successfully integrating their joint document imaging solutions, Kofax and Fujitsu will cooperatively deliver Kofax's newest version of VirtualReScan (VRS) automated document image-perfecting software across all levels of Fujitsu's "fi" series enterprise scanner product line.
Fujitsu was the first vendor to offer Kofax's VRS technology with its scanners and, since then, has significantly deepened its partnership with the company. Now, Fujitsu will be the first vendor to offer VRS and Adrenaline 650i SCSI equipped scanning solutions in the workgroup, departmental, low-volume production, and mid-volume production scanner categories.
VRS' award-winning patent technology sets the standard for document image processing. The software's integration with Fujitsu's wide range of scanners enables customers to complete document capture tasks more efficiently and at a lower cost.
"Fujitsu has, since the beginning, recognized the enormous capabilities that Kofax's VRS technology delivers to customers," said Don McMahan, vice president of sales, Imaging Products Group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. "VRS technology is the benchmark for document image quality in all types of scanning environments and, just as Fujitsu's first VRS-equipped scanner raised the bar for the rest of the industry then, the new Fujitsu/Kofax partnership will do the same in 2003."
"In short, our two companies are, together, giving imaging customers complete, integrated capture solutions across all Fujitsu platforms -- something no one else in the industry is doing."
Fujitsu's first scanner to integrate VRS with Kofax's Adrenaline 650iMV SCSI interface boards will be the fi-4860C, available in October. VRS field upgrade kits are available now for Fujitsu scanner models fi-4120C, fi-4220C, fi-4860C and fi-4990C. The new VRS equipped Fujitsu scanners are available through authorized resellers, VARs, and distributors including Ingram Micro, Tech Data, Optical Laser, NewWave Technologies and Cranel Imaging.
"Our alliance with Fujitsu underscores our philosophy of providing the best document imaging solutions to our users and the channel," said Doug Rudolph, vice president of global sales, Kofax. "Kofax imaging solutions have long been widely embraced by the imaging community, and aligning itself even more closely with Fujitsu's entire product line will deliver exponential value to our customers."
"We are enthusiastic about our expanded alliance with Kofax, and confident that Fujitsu and Kofax together offer the best document imaging and imaging enhancement solutions available," said Scott Francis, senior product marketing manager, Imaging Products Group, Fujitsu Computer Products of America. "By deepening our relationship and further integrating our offerings, both Kofax and Fujitsu reaffirm their leadership in the document imaging industry and, most important, bring an even greater array of award-winning imaging solutions to market."
About VirtualReScan (VRS)
VRS performs a multi-point inspection of each document which greatly improves readability of scanned images by automatically straightening, cropping and optimizing exposure in real time. Image inconsistencies such as alignment, brightness and contrast are immediately corrected by VRS so that only the straightest, most readable images are captured by the system.
VRS achieves high levels of accuracy in data captured from scanned documents by greatly reducing the need for manual corrections of intelligent character recognition (ICR) and optical character recognition (OCR) results. VRS improved OCR results approximately 35 percent in tests conducted by independent research firm Doculabs. With VRS, users can load any combination of document types and sizes into a scanner and simply press the scan button.
The use of VRS as part of the document capture process will result in lower operating costs due to increased automated recognition accuracy, fewer rescans, easier-to-read images, and a significant reduction in the manual labor required to presort documents and change scanner settings.
Scanner Availability
Fujitsu's scanning solutions integrated with the latest version of VRS software and Adrenaline 650iMV SCSI connector boards will be available in October through authorized resellers, VARs, and distributors including Ingram Micro, Tech Data, Optical Laser, NewWave Technologies and Cranel Imaging. VRS field upgrade kits for Fujitsu scanner models fi-4120C, fi-4220C, fi-4860C and fi-4990C will be available at the end of September.
