Fujitsu ScanSnap!™ Streamlines Operations and Data Archiving Among Small Businesses In The Accounting Industry

Fujitsu's ScanSnap!™ Scanning Solution Helps TAC Solutions, Inc.  Achieve Increased Employee Productivity and Maximize Expensive Office Space

San Jose, CA, August 19, 2003 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), a market leader in document imaging scanners and services, today announced that the new Fujitsu ScanSnap!™ scanner is making significant headway among small businesses within the paper-intensive accounting industry by enabling simplified and streamlined tax preparation and filing operations. Users have already realized monetary savings due to ScanSnap!'s one-step centralized approach to paper-to-digital conversion of hardcopy documents, resulting in increased employee productivity and maximizing use of expensive office space.

The accounting industry is one of many plagued with volumes of colored and multi-sized documents, archiving requirements of up to several years, limited storage space, exponential annual growth of paper documentation, compliance, and 'paper replication' issues bred by fax machines and copy machines. Fujitsu's ScanSnap! scanner was engineered to offer simple, anytime, anywhere access to data by bridging the "paper-based" world with the digital to streamline paper clutter.

A case in point is TAC Solutions, Inc., which provides tax preparation and consultation, accounting software, and computer systems services for small businesses within the San Francisco Bay Area.  TAC has battled the accounting industry's paper war for over 10 years. Each client file includes such documents as property tax statements, DMV renewal statements, escrow final documents, charitable contribution statements, stock transaction documents from brokerage houses, and canceled checks. Until the 2001 tax season, TAC Solution processed and archived its client tax files on a standard multifunction printer and scanner. Using this system each document had to be scanned one page at a time, including double-sided documents, then saved and archived individually. TAC's process required an annual purchase of file cabinets in order to archive these documents.

For the 2002 tax season TAC Solution realized its processing and file archiving system needed to be upgraded and streamlined to save office space, time, and money. TAC Solutions deployed Fujitsu's ScanSnap!™ scanning solution to facilitate the scanning and archiving of its client files. As a result, employee hours required for archiving was cut in half. TAC is now scanning previous years' tax forms and permanent records (including business startup documents, payroll, and worker compensation records) into PDF for its permanent digital client file folders. Additionally, TAC Solution is now saving space that can be used for additional staff as file cabinets full of archived paper documents are replaced with CDs full of easily referenced scanned images.
