Fujitsu Expands Scanner Family With New Mid-Volume Production and Workgroup Color Scanners

San Jose, CA, November 13, 2002 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), a market leader in document imaging scanners, today announced the expansion of its award-winning scanner product family with the addition of two new color scanners designed for two distinct business imaging environments.

The new fi-4860C color scanner offers high-speed, duplex scanning appropriate for production-level imaging needs.  The new scanner delivers color scanning at the same speed and price as monochrome and grayscale and offers the ultimate in paper-handling flexibility with a 500-page automatic document feeder (ADF) that handles document sizes ranging from 2.9" x 2.9" to 11" x 17."

For workgroup document imaging environments, the new fi-4010CU color and USB workgroup scanner represents the best of innovation and quality in the market at a fantastic list price of $695 U.S.  The new scanner is bundled with Adobe® Acrobat® 5.0 software valued at more than $200 and is equipped with a 25-page ADF.  Overall, the new fi-4110CU includes many features usually found in only high-end scanning systems.

The new fi-4860C color, mid-volume production scanner encompasses the functionality and robust tools businesses need for production level scanning including, duplex color scanning at the same speed and price as monochrome and grayscale.  The fi-4860C also scans with true 400 dpi optical resolution and features a top scanning speed of 63 pages per minute (ppm).  Additionally, it features several image enhancement features, including automatic page size detection, crop, and deskew, all invaluable options when performing large batch scans of critical hardcopy documents.  The fi-4860C comes equipped with Adobe Acrobat 5.0 software allowing users to convert any document to an Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) file, the defacto file format in many industries including government and business applications.

The new fi-4010CU color, workgroup scanner delivers exceptional value to the front-office application scanning market and is perfect for decentralized applications, especially with its sleek compact footprint that saves valuable desktop space.  The fi-4010CU is compliant with the USB 1.1 interface for fast connectivity and increased data transfer speeds.  In addition, the scanner also comes equipped with Adobe Acrobat 5.0 software.  The new scanner, with true 600dpi optical resolution and color CCD scanning array, features fast color, grayscale and monochrome scan rates of up to 12 ppm at 200 dpi and a 25-page ADF and flatbed for exceptional documents.

The fi-4010CU comes complete with a comprehensive document imaging software package including Adobe Acrobat 5.0 software allowing users to convert any document to an Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) file, as well as ScandAll 21 TWAIN Scan Utility for personal installation and overall ease of use.

Fujitsu has the resources, skills, experience, and processes to deliver quality service to all customers.  Fujitsu's fi-4860C color, production-level scanner is no exception with its wide variety of comprehensive service options that are customizable to the needs of each customer.  Fujitsu offers a standard limited warranty on the fi-4860C of 3-months on-site service, but customers who register their scanner within 90 days of purchase will receive a free 9-month on-site service upgrade.

ScanCare, a comprehensive offering combining preventative maintenance, consumables and training with Basic parts and labor, is Fujitsu's flagship offering.  ScanCare alleviates customer concerns of downtime and availability of supplies by way of scheduled preventative maintenance and timely delivery of scanner consumables.  The ScanCare program, FCPA's only factory-authorized preventative scanner maintenance program, is an easy, affordable way to extend the life and performance of FCPA scanners.

Service Options for the Fujitsu fi-4010CU

The Fujitsu fi-4010CU color, USB workgroup scanner comes standard with a 1-year depot limited warranty.  Advance Exchange, Fujitsu's overnight replacement program, is offered as an upgrade during the limited warranty period or as a yearly contract post-warranty.  The Advance Exchange program for the fi-4010CU assures customers that their businesses will experience minimal disruption in the unlikely event of a hardware failure and provides advance replacement on failed or broken Fujitsu scanners.

Availability and Pricing

Fujitsu's fi-4860C color scanner is available now starting at $16,995 U.S. list.  The fi-4010CU is available now starting at $695 U.S. list.  Limited warranty service upgrades start at $895 for same day response time on the fi-4860C with product registration.  The one-year Advance Exchange upgrade for the fi-4010CU is priced at $125.
