Fujitsu Expands Imaging Product Family With New Departmental Scanners

High-Performance, Low-Volume Production Scanner for Departmental and Workgroup Environments Broadens Award-Winning Product Line

San Jose, CA, October 11, 2001 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), a market leader in document imaging scanners, today announced the expansion of its award-winning "fi" scanner product family with the addition of the new fi-4640S departmental simplex document scanner.

The new fi-4640S departmental scanner represents one of the highest quality simplex scanning solutions for departments and workgroups on the market today. With the introduction of the fi-4640S, Fujitsu not only rounds out its already comprehensive family of "fi" scanners, but also demonstrates its continued focus to deliver feature-rich products that meet a variety of needs.

Introducing the fi-4640S Departmental, Simplex Document Scanner

The fi-4640S scanner offers departments and workgroups uncompromising quality, reliability and flexibility. The scanner offers monochrome and grayscale scanning with speeds of up to 40 pages per minute (ppm) at 200dpi and an output resolution of up to 800dpi to capture fine details on graphics and photos. The scanner's flatbed capabilities accommodate photos, books, or fragile documents, while the automatic document feeder handles up to 100 pages and suits a wide variety of documents, ranging from small receipts to documents 68 inches in length. Its automatic length detection feature eliminates any white space when scanning batches of documents that are different lengths and to ensure batch integrity, the scanner's infrared double-feed document detection capabilities prevent lost images.  For document archiving, the fi-4640S from Fujitsu is a perfect fit in terms of price, speed, duty cycle, paper handling, and image quality.

About the fi-4990C Color, Duplex Production Scanner

The fi-4990C scanner from Fujitsu offers high-speed, color, duplex scanning and powerful paper-handling capabilities, making it ideal for production scanning.  The scanner features fast color, grayscale and monochrome scan rates of up to 90 ppm or 180 images per minute (ipm) at 200 dpi and an industry-leading 1,000-page automatic document feeder (ADF) with an infrared document double-feed detection feature and paper thickness adjustment.

The large-capacity ADF can process a variety of document types and sizes from A7 to A3 and can be adjusted to handle smaller batches of 250 and 500 documents.  The easily-calibrated infrared document double-feed detection prevents lost images and, together with the option of five paper-thickness settings for extra light to heavyweight documents, enables large batches of mixed document types to be scanned quickly, reliably, and automatically.

The fi-4990C also offers standard duplex color dropout, which enables the user to drop red, green, or blue from either side of an image with just one setting on the control panel or software interface, drastically improving the ease with which forms are processed.  In addition, the scanner includes hardware JPEG compression as a standard feature.  Also, the fi-4990C is offered with the ScanCare™ Preventative Maintenance service option.

The ScanCare Preventative Maintenance Program

FCPA's ScanCare preventative maintenance program provides a comprehensive customer service and support program minimizing customer downtime and reducing maintenance costs.  The ScanCare program, FCPA's only factory-authorized preventative scanner maintenance program, is an easy, affordable way to extend the life and performance of FCPA scanners.  The ScanCare program offers 12-months of on-site service, scheduled deliveries of scanner consumable parts, two scheduled on-site field engineer visits for cleaning, and a valuable reference guide for maximizing scanner maintenance and output quality.  The ScanCare program highlights FCPA's dedication to bringing maintenance issues to the forefront of the industry.

The fi-4640S commenced shipping in September and is available starting at $5,995 U.S. list.  The fi-4990C will be available in November starting at $29,995 U.S list.
