Fujitsu Computer Products Of America Expands Scanner Product Family

Three New Scanners Offer High-Performance and Excellent Image Quality for Workgroup to Production Level Applications

San Jose, CA, April 23, 2001 — Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), a market leader in document imaging scanners, today announced the expansion of its award-winning scanner product family, with the addition of the new fi-4990C color production scanner; the new ScanPartner fi-4110CU -- Fujitsu's first USB workgroup scanner; and the fi-4750L high-performance, low-volume production, monochrome/grayscale scanner with 250-page automatic document feeder (ADF).

The new scanners from Fujitsu offer high-speed, high-quality duplex scanning and represent some of the most affordable, feature-rich scanners now available. With the latest product introductions, FCPA continues its migration to its new naming strategy with the "fi" series representing "Fujitsu Imaging".  The three new fi-series scanners will be officially introduced next week at the AIIM '01 show in New York City.

Introducing the fi-4990C Color, Duplex Production Scanner

The new fi-4990C scanner from Fujitsu offers high-speed, color, duplex scanning and powerful paper-handling capabilities, making it ideal for production scanning.  The scanner features fast color, grayscale and monochrome scan rates of up to 90 pages-per-minute (ppm) or 180 images-per-minute (ipm) at 200 dpi and an industry-leading 1,000-page automatic document feeder (ADF) with an infrared document double-feed detection feature and paper thickness adjustment.

The large-capacity ADF can process a variety of document types and sizes from A7 to A3 and can be adjusted to handle smaller batches of 250 and 500 documents.  The easily-calibrated infrared document double-feed detection prevents lost images and, together with the option of five paper-thickness settings for extra light to heavyweight documents, enables large batches of mixed document types to be scanned quickly, reliably, and automatically.

The fi-4990C also offers standard duplex color dropout, which enables the user to drop red, green, or blue from either side of an image with just one setting on the control panel or software interface, drastically improving the ease with which forms are processed.  In addition, the scanner includes hardware JPEG compression as a standard feature. The fi-4990C offers a one-year on-site service warranty and is available with the ScanCare™ Preventative Maintenance service option.

Introducing the ScanPartner fi-4110CU, The First USB Workgroup Scanner from Fujitsu

The affordable, color, duplex ScanPartner fi-4110CU scanner -- based on the award-winning ScanPartner 3091DC scanner – offers workgroup scanning for front-office applications.  This compact ADF scanner has a small enough footprint to be used on any workstation allowing decentralized scanning with outstanding image quality and speed.  

The new ScanPartner fi-4110CU offers duplex and color capabilities at speeds up to 15ppm and includes scanning software for personal installation and ease of use.  Even the amateur operator can be assured quality scans with image enhancement features such as error diffusion and gamma correction.  The ScanPartner fi-4110CU offers a one-year warranty with the No Excuses® End User Replacement Program.

Introducing the fi-4750L, Duplex Low-Volume Production Scanner

The affordable, high-performance fi-4750L scanner -- based on the award-winning M4097D scanner from Fujitsu -- offers even faster duplex scanning and additional ADF capacity, which combine to allow larger organizations and workgroups to realize the benefits of document scanning.

The fi-4750L offers monochrome scanning speeds of up to 55ppm/100ipm.  Additionally, it features a 250-page ADF that can be continuously fed with a variety of documents from small receipts to large reports with paper thickness from onionskin to cardstock.  The 11.7" x 17" flatbed accommodates books, photos, and fragile documents.

 

The fi-4750L also features a dual CCD camera array that uses 1024 level internal grayscale to deliver superior image detail, and offers standard image processing including error diffusion, dynamic thresholding and image emphasis, all of which ensure high quality from document to document, automatically adapting to the quality of the original. The fi-4750L offers a three-month on-site service and 9-month depot service warranty and is available with the ScanCare™ Preventative Maintenance option.

The ScanCare Preventative Maintenance Program

FCPA's ScanCare preventative maintenance program provides a comprehensive customer service and support program minimizing customer downtime and reducing maintenance costs.  The ScanCare program, FCPA's only factory-authorized preventative scanner maintenance program, is an easy, affordable way to extend the life and performance of FCPA scanners.  The ScanCare program offers 12-months of on-site service, scheduled deliveries of scanner consumable parts, two scheduled on-site field engineer visits for cleaning, and a valuable reference guide for maximizing scanner maintenance and output quality.  The ScanCare program highlights FCPA's dedication to bringing maintenance issues to the forefront of the industry.

Availability and Pricing

The fi-4990C will be available in early 3Q01 starting at less than $35,000 U.S list.  The ScanPartner fi-4110CU will be available in July 2001 starting at $995 U.S. list.  The fi-4750L will be available starting at $9,995 U.S. list in May 2001.
