Fujitsu Adds Standard Sizes to its Self-Wetting Adhesive Protector Sheets for Touch Panels

Sunnyvale, CA, May 10, 2010 — Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today announced it is offering its self-wetting adhesive protector sheets (SWAPS) in standard sizes to fit popular LCD dimensions. The protector sheets offer a low-cost, readily available way to extend the life of any touch screen or flat panel during product use, testing or shipping.

The new SWAPS now come in standard LCD sizes ranging from 7- to 17-inches diagonal. They can also be custom die-cut to fit any display’s surface dimensions.

Fujitsu’s SWAPS use a patented, self-wetting adhesive that enables easy, accurate and static-free application in the field using only light finger pressure. High shear resistance prevents displacement during use, yet the sheet can be removed by hand, even after an extended period of time, without leaving a residue or creating static electricity that can harm delicate circuitry. SWAPS can also be repositioned and reused, thereby reducing waste and materials costs.

The RoHS-compliant SWAPS are constructed of an ultra-thin (.003”-.004”/75-100um) hard-coated film that protects against repeated stylus input and environmental elements. The 3H surface hardness is scratch and chemical resistant, yet offers excellent stylus registration with a negligible effect on the panel’s optical clarity.

Because there is no conductive or ITO coating to interfere with capacitive or projected-capacitive touch panels, SWAPS can be used with all touch technologies. They have an operating temperature range of -30 to +70 degrees C.

According to Bruce DeVisser, Fujitsu Components America’s product marketing manager, input devices, the touch interface is typically a device’s most expensive component. “Across nearly every industry, we’re seeing an increase in touch-based devices that must endure heavy use. Protecting that investment by using SWAPS costs 100 times less than replacing a damaged touch interface,” he said.

The protector sheets come standard with an Anti-Glare (matte) finish that is 90% transmissive with an 8% Haze. A Clear Hardcoat is also available by special order. The standard-size SWAPS are packaged in 3-to-10 piece quantities, and priced according to size.
