Fujitsu Releases Its Smallest Battery-Powered Thermal Printer/Cutter Mechanism

Sunnyvale, CA, October 17, 2005 — Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today released its smallest battery-driven thermal printer mechanism with an integrated guillotine cutter. Designed for handheld or fixed terminals, POS, medical equipment, and measuring instrumentation, the new printer is 20 percent smaller than its predecessor, the FTP-628MCL353.
Fujitsu minimized the new printer’s size and weight by using lightweight materials and redesigning the cutting mechanism. As a result, the new, 2-inch FTP-628MCL401 printer with the cutter weighs 97g and has dimensions of 21.8(H) x 81.2(W) x 42.2 (D) mm.
Depending on the application’s power requirements, the mechanism has a flexible operating range of 4.2 V to 8.5VDC. It is capable of a maximum print speed of 60 mm/sec (480 dotlines/sec) at 8VDC with 8 dot/mm resolution.
The FTP-628MCL401 accommodates paper widths up to 58mm and 60 to 100 micrometers thick. Despite the printer’s compact size, Fujitsu’s unique platen release system gives access to a wide paper path to simplify drop-in paper loading. Conventional feed paper loading is still also possible.
The printer features a die-cast frame that is designed to absorb ESD, and provide stability against vibration and shock. It also facilitates the printer’s 0 to 50 degrees C operating temperature range. In addition, all component wiring is contained in a single flex circuit.
The FTP-628MCL401 is available immediately. It is priced at $51.25 in one-thousand piece quantities. Delivery is 14-16 weeks ARO. An optional, Parallel/Serial miniature interface board is also available.
