Fujitsu Releases Semi-Rugged Standalone Printer for Mobile Applications

Sunnyvale, CA, March 30, 2004 — Fujitsu Components America today released a semi-rugged, mobile thermal printer unit with a Bluetooth® interface for handheld, portable and wireless applications.
In addition to Bluetooth, the new FTP-628WSL110 printer supports both serial and IrDA input. It is powered by either a 3.7VDC lithium ion battery or a 120VAC adapter. With 1.5A power consumption, a single battery charge will print 50m of paper.
The fully programmable printer measures 84.0 (W) x 134.5 (L) by 43.6 (H) mm [3.30 x 5.30 x 1.72 in], and weighs 280g [0.61lb] (including battery and paper). It has an output speed of 40mm/sec (1.6in/sec; 320 dotlines/sec) and is capable of printing various bar codes, alphanumeric KANA, JIS KANJI and international characters. It uses 2-inch (58mm) wide thermal receipt paper stocks ranging from 60 to 100 microns thick.
For semi-rugged applications, such as route sales, medical, retail, test and measurement or mobile receipt/invoice generation, the unit is designed to withstand a 1.5m drop test and is water resistant to JIS C0920 Class 2 standards. It also has an operating temperature of -5 to +50 degrees C.
The enclosure is designed around Fujitsu’s Easy-Load Mechanism. The cover opens to completely expose the paper path and platen, enabling drop-in paper loading and tool-free platen replacement.
Available immediately, the printer comes with an AC adapter, battery, belt clip and paper roll. It has a list price of $480.
