New Printer Design Simplifies Mounting Process

Sunnyvale, CA, May 13, 2003 — Fujitsu Components America Inc. today released an ultra-compact thermal printer mechanism with a platen unit that is “easy mount.᾿ The new design simplifies the printer’s installation into applications such as portable or mobile devices, Point-of-Sale equipment, and measurement and medical instrumentation.
The new FTP-628MCL113 printer series features Fujitsu’s Easy-Load Mechanism: a lever-activated, detachable platen that facilitates easy paper changing or loading. Adding the integrated mounting bracket with pre-drilled holes to the platen eliminates the need for customers to develop mounting hardware to install the platen unit inside a clam-shell design.
The 2-inch, 5v printer mechanism measures 75(W) x 38(D) x 15.5(H) mm and weighs 54g. It has a maximum output speed of 60mm (480 dotlines) per second with a print resolution of 203 dots per inch (8 dots per millimeter).
The FTP-628MCL113 supports a variety of alphanumeric, international, and custom characters. It accommodates 60 to 80µ-meter thick paper stocks, including high-sensitivity, standard, and medium- and long-life storage media. It has an operating temperature range of 0°C to +40°C, a head life of 100 million pulses, or 50km of paper, and an operating voltage range of 4.2VDC to 8.5V with a peak current of 1A.
Other printer features include auto paper feed, paper out, head overheat, and platen open detection. Both parallel and serial interface boards are available.
The FTP-628MCL113 series is available immediately from stock. It is priced at $36.25 in quantities of one thousand.
