Ultra-Miniature Automotive Relay Handles High Temperatures, Heavy Loads and Dual Switching Applications and Dual Switching Applications

FBR53 Series Relay

Sunnyvale, CA, September 24, 2002 — Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today released a 125°C grade, ultra-miniature automotive relay with high-contact capacity for heavy-load motor and lamp applications. It is 47% smaller by volume than currently available competitive products.

The FBR53 is a 1 Form U/1 Form A, printed circuit board relay with bifurcated contacts measuring 15.5(L) x 12.1(W) x 13.7(H) mm and weighing 6 grams. Despite its compact size, the new relay’s capability for continuous current is 80A, 10sec; 60A, 120sec; and 40A continuous at 85°C.

As a 1 Form U relay, the FBR53 is capable of switching two signals at one time, offering designers a lightweight, space-saving solution for applications that typically require two relays, such as hazard lamps and electric power steering. As a 1 Form A relay, it also can handle heavy loads, such as automatic braking systems and electric defoggers.

The relay has a contact rating of 14VDC (resistive) and can switch up to 20A for 100,000 operations. It can withstand inrush currents of up to 60A (14VDC).

Featuring 600mW nominal coil power, the FBR53 is constructed of high-conductivity contact materials that meet environmental disposal program requirements. The relay has a mechanical life expectancy of 10 million operations.

Available immediately, pricing for the through-hole FBR53 relay is $2.50 each in ten thousand-piece quantities. Fujitsu will exhibit the FBR53 and other automotive components at the Convergence 2002 show (booth 135) in Detroit, Oct, 21-23.
