Fujitsu Achieves 90% Transmissivity with New Resistive Touch Panel Series

SID Booth #3104

Boston, MA, May 22, 2002 — Fujitsu Components America, Inc. (FCAI) today announced it has started production of 90% transparent, resistive-film touch panels. This very high level of transmissivity provides improved contrast and color clarity, and greater image readability in high ambient light.

Fujitsu developed a proprietary multi-layer coating that when applied to touch panel surfaces significantly reduces panel reflectance and results in 90% transmissivity. Target applications for the new panels include handheld and portable equipment, such as personal digital assistants, personal digital entertainment, portable information assistants, cell phones, and any other battery-powered application.

The FID55x series is based on Fujitsu’s standard 4-wire, analog resistive touch panel, manufactured in both Japan and Taiwan, to facilitate customization, final assembly and delivery. The series is available in a variety of sizes from 2.7 to 17.1 inches.

The touch panels measure from 1.4mm thick, have a 3H minimum surface hardness rating, a minimum writing life of 100 thousand words, and an operating temperature of -30 to 70 degrees C.

Available immediately, the custom 90% FID-55x series typically requires a 2x price premium over Fujitsu’s standard touch panels. Lead time is 10 to 12 weeks ARO.
