Fujitsu Takamisawa Releases Low-Power Resistive Touch Panels

Sunnyvale, CA, April 23, 2001 — Fujitsu Takamisawa America, Inc. (FTA) today released a series of resistive touch panels that combine low power consumption and long operating life with improved optical materials. The panels offer OEMs a cost-effective input component for a variety of portable and fixed applications including kiosks, industrial and process controls, portable and handheld PCs, POS terminals, ATMs, medical equipment and internet appliances.
The FID-550 and FID-554 series have a maximum power consumption of 20mA (15mA typical) in 5V operating mode. The FID-554 series panel uses standard, 4-wire analog resistive technology and has a minimum writing life of 100 thousand words. It has an operating temperature range of 0 to 50°C.
The FID-550 series features a proprietary input detection technology that uses a single resistive layer detection to enhance its writing life to one million words (minimum). It has an operating temperature range of –5 to 60°C. Both series are available in several standard panel sizes from under 5.7 to 18-inches plus (diagonal viewing area).
Both touch panels are available in pen-input and pen/finger-input models. The pen-input panels have an operating force of 100g (max.) and feature a proprietary dot-spacing method to prevent finger input at less than 500g. The pen/finger-input models have a maximum operating force of 80g.
Light transmissivity and clarity is rated at 80 percent (typical) transparency with a 5 percent (typical) haze. Clarity is further enhanced with Anti-Newton ring technology and surface hardness is rated at 2H (min.) with 1.5% (max.) linearity, with resolution is specified at 0.1mm (0.004-inch).
Available immediately, the touch panels are competitively priced in OEM quantities from $30 to $90 each, with microcontrollers under $10.
