Fujitsu Takamisawa's New Print Mechanisms Feature Easy-Load Design

FTP-628MCL101/103

Sunnyvale, CA, March 12, 2001 — Fujitsu Takamisawa America Inc. (FTA) today released a new series of ultra-compact, battery-driven thermal printer mechanisms with detachable platens that simplify and expedite paper loading and printer accessibility.

The 2- and 3-inch printers are targeted to OEM designs such as portable and handheld devices; Point-of-Sale and banking kiosks; and measurement and medical equipment. Both printers have a maximum output speed of 60mm (480 dotlines) per second with a print resolution of 203 dots per inch (8 dots per millimeter).

Because the platen is separable from the rest of the printer, it offers design flexibility. For example, the entire compact mechanism can be incorporated into a clamshell-style design, if desired, to simplify the end product design. Both low-profile printers measure 15.5mm high and 33mm deep. The 2-inch mechanism measures 70.3mm wide and weighs 46 grams, while the 3-inch device is 92.3mm wide and weighs 53 grams.

The printers support a variety of alphanumeric, international and special characters, and accommodate 60 to 80µ-meter thick paper stocks, including high-sensitivity, standard, and medium- and long-life storage media. They have an operating temperature range of 0°C to +40°C, a head life of 100 million pulses, or 50km of paper, and an operating voltage range of 4.2VDC to 8.5V with a peak current of 1A.

Printer features include auto paper feed, as well as paper out, head overheat, and head up detection. Both parallel and serial interface boards are available.

The FTP-608MCL100 series is available immediately from stock. Pricing for a 2-inch mechanism is $31.25 in quantities of one thousand.
